Many Childress/Childers families of TN won't be happy to hear this, but
pages 268-272 of Virginia Genealogist volume 34 in 1991
shows the correct identity of John Childers/Childress son of Mary Farmer and
Henry Childers whose will probated 3 March 1761 Lunenburg Co VA :
Pages 268-271 show that Henry&Mary's son John had will probated 1814 in
Prince
Edward Co. VA Will Book 4: 489-490.
---
CONTRARY to popular pre-1990 beliefs, John Childers/Childress son of
Mary&Henry
was not the John probated 1811 in Davidson Co. TN Book # 4: 137;
key documents on above pages 268-272 are Deed Bk 14: 117 of 15 jun 1807
where
one of witnesses was Absolom/Absolum Farmer son of 1st cousin of the above
Mary
(Farmer) Childers. Also Lunenburg Co. VA Deed Bk 5: 467-468 of 2 Oct. 1759
where the above Mary release dower, and Henry sold to Prince Edward Co John
Rutledge, 2 of 3 witnesses were their son John Childers and John Farmer,
same
name as Mary's father, but witness's exact identity not easily confirmed;
PARTIAL CONFIRMATION IS that above John probated Prince Edward Co VA seems
to
have married about 1760 when his father Henry probated Lunenburg Co VA --
-----WHEREAS from page 53 of Vol. 35 (1991) of Virginia Genealogist:
--the above John probated 1811 Davidson Co. TN seems to have married ca
Jan1768
when his apparent father John Childers gave him land Henrico Co VA Deeds p.
74;
The correct identity of John son of Henry & Mary (Farmer) Childers/Childress
is

My grandparents were also Elijah and Lenora Ash Childers, though I never met them. They had both died before I was born. My mother was Gay Childers Newbrough. I guess that makes us cousins. Let me hear from you. It would be nice to connect.
