I have tried to contact some of your family for years to get more information on your clan. I visited Smyrna, South Carolina several times and was told that all of you were down in Florida. I will be out of town tomorrow but will be back on Thursday. I do have more information for your husband and maybe he or you can fill in some of the blanks that I have. Tell Rodger that he and I are fourth cousins once removed. I have researched this/our Childers clan for over 20 years. Contact me at jchild3400(a)bellsouth.net and we can work without being on a public link.
Jerry

Jim are you still near Dallas? Tried calling you, and your wife, but could
not get through. We are still down here in La., that last storm was really a
bad one. We only lost food in the freezer, and a few fence posts for the wooden
fence . The sounds from the storm, were like a wild screaming animal. Did I
tell you that I grew up in Hunt Co. Texas, still have nieces and nephews over
there.

I saw your tree and similar given names are repeated over and over.I contributed my Childress Family data at McMinn County USgenweb.org. Just scroll through and see if anything looks familiar. My Childress/Childers line does have Cherokee Native blood through the Duncans,Hubbards, and Vanns. I have several Cherokee applications with lots of affidavits to verify lineage. Good luck in your quest. We are probably connected somewhere.

If you would like me to print this query in the Childers/Childress Family Association Newsletter I will. Just email me at mkferris(a)bellsouth.net. A lot of our members do not use a computer but have fantastic records taken the old fashioned way.

I have found two North Carolina Lemuel Childers/Childress.
One born c 1787, parents undetermined at present, married Nancy Vann, Cherokee, and had children, including Levi, b c 1820, in Tennessee. They moved to Oklahoma as part of those who moved before the "Trail of Tears." This is my line.
Another Lemuel line, also born in NC, moved to Alabama and on to Texas. My guess from a brief look at your online info is that your line is this one.
I agree that there must be a common ancestor but it seems neither of us know who yet.
I wish you well in your research and we must connect again when our lines meet.

I'm so very sorry to say that, upon reading the originating note in this thread, it's apparent that my line and that of your ancestors are likely not be the same. However, the event locations, surnames and given names are the same in many cases leading me to speculate the lines coincide back in time. You can give me your thoughts after reviewing my line at:

Surnames of Vann, Childers/ress, Levi, etc. included

This is so exciting. Anything you have on this line would be greatly appreciated. My line goes from Levi to William Wallace to Charles Allen. Where do you go?
Thanks so much for your offer.
