Hi Tammy,
Very interesting to learn Byron & Cynthia Ann (Childers) Stout also moved to IA in 1860s. Relatives followed other relatives & friends west as I have documented many cases of this. However, I don't have any info about them moving from VA/WV to IA.
In the fall of 1851, my great grandfather Isaac Lee Childers moved with his Tharp in-laws to southern IA then ultimately settled/raised his family across the border in northern MO (Sullivan County). There is another Childers family in Sullivan, MO & I just sure we are from same VA/WV Childers line but have been unable to find the connecting thread.....
Where in IA did Byron & Cynthia move? I show 2 of their children -- Anna B. & Lloyd E were back in Harrison County, WV in 1880 census living with Bryon's brother Job Stout.
As for Robert Childers, father of Cynthia Ann - I show he is a brother to my Isaac Childers - both sons of William Childers, Sr. & Martha Lowther ...but I do not have proof of this. I show he was born abt. 1807 married Jane Unknown abt 1828 - had 5 children: Sarah Jane born abt 1830 d. 1854 - Cynthia Ann b. abt. 1836? Edwin abt. 1839 - Virginia abt. 1841 - Louisa abt. 1844
I would love to exchange info with you - please contact me at vanddave(a)cox.net when you can.

I'm descended from this line as well.
My line is as follows:
Joseph STOUT m. Martha "Patsy" CHILDERS
Byron (or Byram) STOUT m. Cynthia Ann "Ann" CHILDERS
Anna B. STOUT m. Lewis N. HICKMAN
Etta May HICKMAN m. James Arthur TATE
Belva TATE m. Urshel Earl TATE (my grandparents - two different TATE families)
Byron and Cynthia Ann moved to Iowa where Anna was born (as well as 1 sister and 2 brothers). Cynthia died in Iowa (or so it seems) between the birth of Anna, 5 March 1868, and 1870. The two daughters were sent to live with family in West Virginia while the boys stayed behind in Iowa. Byron remarried before 1880 to Nancy C. (surname unknown).
I'm wondering if maybe Byron went to Iowa to be with his uncle Isaac now that I see he existed... What drew them to Iowa in the first place?
As for Cynthia and Byron, their marriage record shows that her parents were Robert CHILDERS and Jane. Was this Robert the brother of Martha "Patsy" CHILDERS?
