My Grandmothers maiden name was Fannie Childers and she was from Mississippi. My aunt has claimed a great grandmother who was a Native American I do not know from which tribe. She would have been born in the 1880s or 90s. Do you know of her or her family.

Thank you. I see that John was on the "Trail of Tears" to Oklahoma. I suspect he 'may" have worke for John Ridge as a boatman and later a storekeeper. (NOT VERIFIED)

I believe they were from alabama. Archibald childress whose Indian name was Ah-chilla is supposed to be on the cherokee rolls of 1851 but I have not found him. His children were Ayers, John and cynthia Childress. Ayers was my ancestor. John was supposed to have gone west with the indians who went to Oklahoma and I have no info about cynthia. John childress is also supposed to be on the 1851 rolls. Ayers childress lived in Tishomingo Miss in 1850 and died about 1851. My ancestors moved to tennesee and then to texas and some eventually wound up in Oklahoma. Ayers was also supposed to be a cousin of Sarah Childress Polk, wife of President James Polk. Hope this helps. I have been chasing my cherokee connection for many years and only found confirmation a couple of months ago.
