Peggy,
So sorry to hear about your health. I am going crazy trying to document who Stephen's parents are. Ancestry has it that his parents are John Stephen Childers from NC and Elizabeth Humphries is his mother. Also that Stephen Childerhouse (England) and Mary Spurling are his grandparents. We have been all over Newton County,MO looking for documentation; however, as you know there was a big flood in 1890 something that washed their records away. When we went to Seneca MO Library last week they sold us 2 books that have been put together by local residents and in one of them is a map of Seneca that shows Stephen Childers owned quite a parcel of land there. We're going to try to go to the courthouse and see if they have any land records. In one of these books it shows lots of merchants from Seneca (he was a grocer) moved to ShortCreek, MO when lead was discovered there. ShortCreek, MO is now Galena, KS where we currently live !!!!!! We have a big genealogy library here so wi!
ll try to get there to check further. Galena, KS AKA ShortCreek, MO is about 25 miles from Seneca, MO. We never knew until this week that SP lived here. I'll be sure to let you know if we find anything worthwhile for your records. Take are of yourself!!!! Best wishes, Cuz Veva Jackson

veva, acording to what my father told me, the first childers (man) who came over from england, was either a preacher or teacher, and either married, or was living with a cherokee woman, they had children, and after the first trail of tears, he loaded the family up, and moved to indian teratory, but i have never found anyone who knew for sure, but there are 100's of childers on the rolls, as i understand, and also 100's of childers living in oklahoma, where indian teretory was.
then again, elizabeth stanily was probebly cherokee, because most people born in tn. have cherokee in them.
if you ever find out, please let me know.
thanks, peg

Hi
Do you have any idea if Elizabeth Stanley's family were American Indian? She was my husbands g grandmother. He was told by his mother when he was little that he was Indian (Cherokee) but do not know from which side of the family. All his family is gone now and we have no one to ask now.

Peggy, I email back and forth with 2 of the Childers great grandsons, Tom and Wayne. They will not accept the grandparents names of Stephen until there is some documentation. Ancestery.com lists them as I gave to you but still have no documentation. We have even been to Seneca MO library and Neosho Mo Library and they do not have much on the Childers. We are still looking and will contact you if we find any proof of Stephen's and Elizabeth's fathers names.

Just found your posting from 2005. Stephen and Elizabeth are buried side by side in Seneca Cemetery, Seneca, MO. Thier daughter, Mary Elizabeth, is a few feet away. Mary E.'s husband, Sam Taylor, is also buried in this cemetery but is quite a way from Mary's grave. We are still trying to find out Stephen and Elizabeth's parents names.

Hi,
My husband is the gggrandson of Stephen Patton and Elizabeth Stanley Childers. We decorate Stephen's, Eliz's, and their daughter, Mary Elizabeth's gravesite every Memorial Day for 42 years. They are buried in Seneca,MO cemetary. Mary Elizabeth married my husbands' g grandfather, Samuel Benjamin Taylor. The other Childers (relatives) of Stephen and Elizabeth won't accept that John Stephen Childers is Stephen P.'s father without some kind of documentation. My husband and I have been to Seneca and Neosho MO libraries to find documentation but cannot find any. Please tell me how you received this information and if I could have a copy. Thank you.

I'm looking for his parents, too. Have you found anything new since 2000? How do I get to your Childers webpage?

The relationship between A. Childers and Wm and Malinda Childers Clemons is what I am trying to establish. Why were they living with A Childers rather than her parents? Was A. a brother or other relative to Robert C?
I would love to speak with you regarding Malinda's line. I have some information, including 7 children.
Thank you for responding, please email me privately at djbwain(a)yahoo.com. Thanks!
