What are the approx. ages of these GA Childers?
I have Samuel Childers, born between 1774 and 1784, in Asheville, NC, from around 1805 to at least 1820, and married to a daughter of Joseph Smith.

Can anyone provide more information about either of these?
(1) Samuel Childers - listed on the tax rolls of Richland Township,
Arkansas County, AR, in 1828, 1830, and 1832;
or (2) Samuel Childers - listed in the 1830 Census for Mobile County,
Alabama.
I will much appreciate any details which could help me determine if
either of these is the same Samuel Childers who lived in Asheville, NC
for several years around 1810, married to a daughter of Joseph Smith and
Rebecca Dath.
For more information about what I have thus far, see

Thanks,
Dwight Childers

Does anyone have a clue about who these other children were, and the name of his poor, insignificant wife?

Marriage Records of Benjamin Childers and Malinda Yates, (July 23, 1830)
Marriage Record of George W. Childers and Cassandra A. Yates, (March 24, 1834)
These were printed in the Childers/Childress Family Association Newsletter (winter 2007) and submitted by a member who did not have them in his family. Maybe they are your family that you have been searching.

A Benjamine Childers may have been my G-3G'f'tr. I am researching my Maley family. My G-2G'mtr. was Cynthia Childers, b. abt. 1813 in Va. I have never pinned down her parents, but Cynthia was married April 26, 1832 in Brookville, Franklin Co., In., at about age 19. Due to her age, I guessed that her parents were close by. The most likely candidate to be her father is Benjamine Childers, b, abt. 1785 in Va. He first showed up in Franklin Co. In. in the 1817 tax rolls. His first wife was Sarah (nee ?) Childers, b. August 26, 1786 in Va. Benjamine is also buried in Franklin Co.- both in protestant cemeteries. Benjamine had other children- one born in Ohio. Because Franklin Co. borders Ohio, the Ohio birth may not have been far from Fr. Co. One of Benjamine's sons was named Benjamine. The first of Cynthia's sons was named Benjamine.
If you know these people, I'd like to exchange information and document copies.

I have him born in Prince Edward Co VA but have been unable to find anything on him except his children. I have tried to connect him to Royal Childers and could not; also Abraham Childers whose ancestors came from England. I thought he might have been a son of John, son of Abraham, but couldn't find anything. I'm at a loss.

Do you know what county in VA your Josiah came from? He and my Archibald may have been brothers. There was a Royal Childers in Adair Co., KY. He has been documented in Adair Co. a lot more than Archibald has. According to his descendents, he was born in Amherst Co., VA in 1773, and his parents were Benjamin Childers and Ann Joplin. They also say he lived in Bedford Co., VA for a few years. However, these same people listed my Elizabeth Childers as Royal's daughter, but that isn't true. Two different people in Columbia (county seat of Adair Co.) wrote me after reading my query in the Historical Society journal, telling me that Archibald was Elizabeth's father, based on the fact that he signed consent for her to marry Samuel Janes. So I guess we have to treat everything as suspect, until it can be documented.
I'm thinking we can research Amherst Co. & Bedford Co., VA and see if we can come up with any info on these three men. Maybe they were all brothers. Royal born 1773, Archibald, abt 1775, and Josiah 1777.
I have something I printed out from the internet on Benjamin and Ann Childers. I'll read over that again and post if I find anything significant.
Peggy

It sounds like your Archibald Childers would be about the age of my Josiah Childers (Sr) born ca. 1777 in VA, who had a son, Archibald, born 1815. The names Archibald, Josiah Jackson and Burrell are repeated in every generation as well as Nancy and Elizabeth. My Josiah (Sr) was married to Martha Susanna Woodrum and went to McMinn/Monroe/Polk Co TN between 1820- 1850. Some of their children came to AR and MO while others stayed in TN. I hadn't checked Adair Co. KY.

I've been looking at my Childers line again and noticed that the name almost disappeared in Adair Co. KY on the 1850 census, but reappeared in 1860. Does anyone know where they were in the 1850's?
There were two Childers/Childress families in Adair Co., as far as I know. Mine, Archibald Childers, served with Virginia in the War of 1812. He was in Adair Co. in 1820 with a boy under 10,, 2 girls under 10one girl 10-16 and one 26-45, and his wife who was 45 and up. (He was also 45 and up). In 1830 he still had the boy (5-10) one girl 10-15 and one girl 15-20. In 1840 there were no children listed, he was 60-70 and wife was 50-60. They weren't on the 1850 census, not even listed with an adult "child" as normally they would be if they were aged and not able to live alone. But I also don't find any of their children except my ancestress, Nancy Childers, who married Samuel Janes in 1835. Does anybody have one of these Childers/Childress as their ancestor?
The only other Childers I know of is Royal Childers, who is on the 1850 census with his wife Rachel, living with their daughter Martha, and their daughter and son-in-law, John and Eliza (Childers) Field. Royal and my Archibald were near enough in age that they may have been brothers, or possibly cousins.
Can anyone shed some light on all this?

Union, Cherokee, York, Chester and Spartanburg Counties and some in lower North Carolina, all under one ancestor. I do have an extensive amount of information on the Childers/Childress in Greenville and Pickens Counties but they are not related to my clan.
