These are my relatives:
Isaac Childers b. abt. 1808 in McMinn, TN. married Haniabel Webb, born abt. 1812.
They move to Marshall Co., Ala. and have a son Julius W. (Webb?) Childress. Isaac's children change from Childers to Childress.
Any connection?
Thanks

Jean,
Okay, for now, this is my information (I have more), comments and questions
to you -
1. EMILY, was she a daughter of Jeremiah Childress, Sr. who left a will dated
1791/2 Charlotte Co, VA. In his will, he named a daughter EMILY who married
a JAMES Shorter. There was a James in a deed out of Charlotte CO, VA,
however, when it was abstracted and in "Clearinghouse" (Childers/Childress
journal)
the name JAMES was taken from the deed and was thought that he was a CHILDRESS,
when he was not a Childress, he was a SHORTER. Emily was also in the deed,
this is where the mix up came about. James was in the deed under two names,
Childress and Shorter, the court clerk made the error, in the abstract.
I have an original copy of this deed. I also have an original copy and
abstract of Jeremiah's will. His sons who survived were - BENJAMIN - WILLIAM and
JEREMIAH, JR. - Emily was named. BENEDICT was the grandson named, no parents
were named in the will. Jeremiah Sr. left him 200 acre's, suggesting to me at
least, that his father had died and he got the land in place of his father.
Benedict was shown in the estate and pre-nup papers of his widow, JANE who was
sometimes called JEAN as RICHARD and another as DICK..She (JANE - JEAN)
married secondly, THOMAS HAMBLIN and he died 1810, leaving a will. BENEDICT (aka
Richard) left inventory in Charlotte CO, VA 1794 and it is my opinion that he
died young, as his children were young and had to have guardianship, even
though their mother was alive, that was the custom back then.. Benedict or
Richard
had two sons - WILLIAM born 1785 died 1865 and JESSE, born 1792/3 - and three
sisters. I have more info if you believe this to be yours.
Also for your information, there was a RICHARD CHILDRESS who a deed (1777)
said that he was from Charlotte Co, VA. I have two deeds naming him and also
several other Childresses and it was CHILDRESS, which was written as it was in
that time as Childrefs. LONG S. I have not determined exactly WHO this
Richard was in 1777. There was a RICHARD CHILDRESS whose ancestry linked to SC
and
was the ancestry of which Lee Rau researched. See - CHILDRESS-RESEARCH-L
archives - If you descend from either of these branches, why not subscribe to
the
above to, you can post your info on the list. Tell me, if you know that
Richard was your ancestor, then who were those who came after him?
How did you get the name RICHARD? How did you hear of Emily and perhaps a
JAMES? Will be glad to share.
