Looking for info about my ggg grandfather, Jackson Childers (b. abt. 1815) and his brother, Joseph Childers (b. abt. 1813). I believe that their father's name may have been John. They were born in Tennessee and grew up in Indiana. They then moved to Hardin Co., Kentucky where they married sisters, Martha and Mary Ann Reesor ( I have found several spellings for Reesor). Joseph and Mary Ann stayed in Kentucky. Jackson and Martha moved on to Mississippi Co., Missouri where they raised their family of at least 8 children. Their daughter, Frances (my gg grandmother), married at least four times. Her husbands were Jacob McKeown, Henry Weakley, Hazard Morris/Hass Moss, and C. Jeff Johnson.
Glenn,
I have a James A. McKenzie that married Lula Gertrude McCarty on 25 December
1885 in Tipton, Missouri. This is all I know about him. Would you know
anything about him?

You can use the Social Security Death Index as Rootsweb --
http://ssdi.rootsweb.com/
also, with as little information as first name only, or last name only.
Using last name only and
putting in different years (didn't know exact birth date, so inserted
years close to estimate) until
the right combination with name was hit.

I would like to archive this information as vertical files in our library.
That would be the Hutchinson County Library in Borger, Texas. My husband is
a Childress descendant.
Have you contacted the Allentown Library in Allelntown, Pa?

I would like to share ALL my Civil War data concerning Childers/Childress
in the Civil War with the hopes they will be archived in some way. In this way
they will be backed up if you will at several places, with several people.
To insure that they are kept for the future. Please let me know if your
interested in doing this.

Hey Gary,
I gave you all my CHILDERS info regarding Milner Childers (Revolutionary Soldier) & Willis CHILDERS (whom I am thinking is a son to Milner, just can't prove it!).
I suspect Milner had a brother named Gabriel CHILDERS who stated Aug 7, 1822 in Wilkes CO NC in his affadavit he knew Milner Childers to be a soldier in the Revolutionary War.
Tidbit: In 1820 Gabriel CHILDERS enumerated in Anson CO NC.
Sorry I can't help. Judy

Judy,
My ancestor, David Wilkey (Wilkins) born 1784 was the bondsman for the marriages of Willis Childers and Salley Fields in 1820 and John Childers and Nancy Brooks in 1822 in Wilkes Co NC. He also witnessed Milliner Childrens application for a Rev. soldier pension in Wilkes County 1823. David and Catherine Wilkey (she was born c1795) moved to Hall County GA before 1840 and lived near the Wiley Childers household.
I'm trying to determine the connection between my Wilkey (sometimes spelled Wilkin/Wilkins) line and the Childers. One possibility is that Catherine was a Childers. Another is that David Wilkey's father, Alexander, had a sibling who married a Childers.
Do you have any hints to share?
Thanks,
Gary

Hello,
Do you know where a Stephen Childress/Childers fits into (if at all) the
families below? There is a Stephen in Henrico Co. in the 1730s. I am
trying to connect a Stephen Childress who died in Montgomery Co. in
1815. He was born prior to 1750. He had a son named Boling, so I wonder
if his wife Elizabeth's surname was Boling. In Henrico there were
Childress' and Bolings. Thanks, Mary

The Tabitha Childers who was NOT my 5th ggm was the daughter of another Abraham Childers whose wife was Hester/Esther Pledge Cannon. This Abraham Childers was a son of the oldest Philemon Childers ("Lemon").

The oldest known Philemon Childers is said to have been the son of the oldest known Abraham/Abram Childers. Philemon is shown on a large Childers document to have been the brother of Abraham Childers "Junior" and his wife Ann Pew. Abraham and Ann (Pew) Childers are said to have had: Abraham "III," Henry, Robert, Philemon (a younger one), John and Jane. Abraham "III" and his first wife Elizabeth Cannon had several children, including an Elizabeth who married James Thomas. Abraham "III" was married two more times, and his third wife was the widow Lucy (Thomas) Nevil. I don't have proof of the relationship between this Lucy Thomas and the above James Thomas, but I think I read that James might have been her son (maybe born out of wedlock, since Thomas seems to have been Lucy's maiden name; not sure about that story).
The oldest Philemon (known as "Lemon") and his wife Mary (maybe Mary Howard, daughter of John Howard, per one source) had: unknown daughter, Thomas (who had a Thomas Junior), Abraham, Philemon (yet another/third one) and Mary. There was a Tabitha Childers born into this line later (daughter of the "third" Philemon, I believe), and the above Abraham "III" and his first wife Elizabeth Cannon also had a daughter named Tabitha Childers (who was my 5th ggm; these two Tabitha Childers should not be confused)
There was a Philemon Childers who was imported into Charles City Co., VA (CCCo) in 27 Oct 1673 by a John Maies (for which Mr. Maies received some land). I suspect that this was Philemon "Lemon" Childers, but I have no proof of that. There was also a record in the 1690s that mentioned some land in CCCo that Philemon Childers had assigned to Thomas Cook, Jr. Finally, there are some records on a Thomas Childers/Childres in CCCo in 1755 and 1770.
Because there was a Philemon Davidson who died in CCCo in 1773, I wonder if Philemon Childers had a daughter in CCCo who married a Davidson (perhaps unknown by researchers). The daughter of Abraham Childers "III" and Elizabeth Cannon named Tabitha Childers married my 5th ggf, Hezekiah Davidson, and they had a son named Philemon Davidson (died in 1810 in Cumberland Co., VA). I do not know if this Philemon Davidson was named for one of the several Philemon Childers in Tabitha's family mentioned above, or if he was named for the earlier Philemon Davidson in CCCo (or a little of both, perhaps).
I have not been able to prove if my Hezekiah Davidson was out of the Davidson family that was in CCCo. My first record of Hezekiah was in Albemarle Co., VA in the 1740s. He moved to Cumberland Co., VA by 1760, and he died there in 1793. After Hezekiah died, Tabitha (Childers) Davidson remarried to a Gabriel Bradstreet Peaseley, and they had a few children together, including a Lucy Peaseley. Lucy Peaseley later married Reuben F. Davidson, my 3rd ggf (and a son of my 4th ggf, Philemon Davidson (died 1810), and his wife Mary). As such, it appears that Reuben F. Davidson married the daughter of his own grandmother! Just to complicate things a little more, after Tabitha died, Gabriel B. Peaseley remarried to Judith Davidson, another child of Philemon and Mary Davidson. As such, Gabriel B. Peaseley married the granddaughter of his former wife Tabitha!
I have some more on the Childers if you are interested.
