Does anyone have information on Piety Childers who is listed in the 1870 census as the wife of Jefferson Childers in Barbour County, AL? Also in the household were Sarah Payne, age 11, and Martha Shirah, age 15. Piety is listed as the 13 year old daughter of Silas K. Shirah in the 1860 census, also in Barbour County. I can find no further information on Piety after the 1870 census.and I know that Jefferson Childers married Eliza J. Turner in 1876. Does anyone know what happened to Piety between 1870 and 1876? Jefferson Childers is also known as John Jefferson Childers, J.J. Childers, and John J. Childers. Any help you can give me will be appreciated.

Hello Sue -
I didn't find your Harold CHILDERS, but I did find an Ann CHILDERS on the (free) Social Security Death Index at:
http://ssdi.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi
I've no idea from what little info you gave if this is YOUR Ann. But that is for you to decide. I've copied it here from the website:
ANN CHILDERS
Born: 11 Mar 1935
Died: Jan 1982 73018
Last Residence: (Chickasha, Grady, OK) 73018
Last Benefit Received at: (Chickasha, Grady, OK)
Card Issued: Oklahoma
Chickasha is in Grady County. You will want to search Grady County resources online. Here are some links:
http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/OK/Grady/
and
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/grady/grady.html
and the Grady County message board on GenForum. Try posting a query there:
http://genforum.genealogy.com/ok/grady/
I found an "Annie Childers" who was buried in the Fairlawn Park Cemetery in Grady County, Oklahoma and her burial date matches the death month of the Ann CHILDERS mentioned above. Perhaps they are the same? Here's a link to that very generous volunteer Sandi Carter's transcription of the Fairlawn cemetery. Scroll down to see all the CHILDERS:
http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ok/grady/cemeteries/fairln02.txt
You will have to do a bit of digging. But maybe someone related to your family will see your message posts? I hope so. I've often received responses to my queries months and years after first posting. Perhaps you have already read some of the earlier posts on this same message board for some of the names you mentioned: William, John and Delma. Here are links to the posts:

Jo,
I am sorry about the lateness of this response!!
James and Martha ended up in Troy Kansas.
James was born and raised in Cisco, Illinois and Martha was raised in Gentry County, Missouri. They were supposedly married in Gentry, but the court house burned so I have no record of that.

My sister finally got back off the road and she said yes Mary had been married a couple times she thinks to a Glover and a Phillips but couldn't come up with any first names.....a Jasper Phillips signed my Grand mother's birth certificate as her brother to verify her birth. We have been told he was her half brother.................? So if Mary was her father Mack's 2nd wife she was proably the mother of Jasper right?...Emma being a child by Mack and Mary....?
Right??????? I get so confused :)! So check out a Phillips married to a Childers with a son named Jasper Phillips?????

I'm not sure you have the right family for Mary J. Burkett wife of Mac Burkett. I found them in the 1900 Pulaski Co., AR census and Mary was born in Sept. 1853 Georgia, she was too old to be the daughter of John Childers and Mary McCutheon. One more thing, This Mary Burkett is Mac's second wife, she had about 14 children total, only 4 with Mac Burkett, do you know who she was married to prior?? And where they may have lived?? Maybe she married a Childers??
