I'm not sure where in Tennesse he was born. He was in Sevier County, TN in
1840; Marshall County, AL in 1850; and Carroll County, TN in 1860. His wife,
Delilah, was back in Marshall County, AL in 1870. I believe he had two brothers
that I know of: Isaac and Robert. They were both in Marshall County, in 1850
close to each other. They all three had childrens names that were the same. My
great-grandfather was Robert Childress. His father was Andrew J. Childress. My
Elijah had sons named Isaac and Andrew. Isaac (believed to be the brother of
Elijah) had a son named Isaac. Robert (believed to be the brother of Elijah and
Isaac) had sons named Andrew and Robert.

I'm wondering if there's a connection between Elijah Childress (b. 1810, TN)
and your Wilson Childress. Some of Elijah's children resided in Morgan County,
AL.
Regina
Regina,
You mentioned Elijah being born in Tn, in 1810, where was he borned at?
My Isaac was born in 1810 in Tn, in or around Strawberry Plains, Jefferson
County.

As far as I know, my Warren Childers lived around the Washington D.C. area and lived there most of his life.
I, as far as I know, don't believe he had ever lived in Mississippi.

I am new to this list and was wondering if anyone has information on William
and Vina Childers of Mitchell Co. NC.? In the 1880 census, they lived with
Vina's widowed mother, Catherine Prichard and a lot of children, including
Amanda Prichard, my great grandmother. Since William was only 18 in 1880, I
assume they were newlyweds. I have found that his parents were Sherril and
Nancy Childers, of York,SC. But I can't find William and Vina in any later
censuses, and I can't find Amanda either, until 1920. If anyone has info on
these people ,please contact me . I have lots of gaps to fill! Karen

How interesting! Of course, we all have hearing loss as we get older but I
don't remember anyone in my family being hard of hearing at an early age. We
have funny toes but not "twin toes". I am related to America Childers Lyle
{Mackie Lyle} from Morgan County. As for big ears, some Irish tend to have
big ears--you really can't count that. Look at Ronan Tynan! Those are ears!
{good thing I proof read before I hit send--I wrote "some Irish have big
rears" now wouldn't that have brought the house down on me! JUDY

Message Board Post:
I was just going through my father's research files on different family lines and found a letter to him that I must have read several times but have no memory of it. The following is a verbatim reproduction of a letter from someone connected to the Childers/Childress/Childree lines in Alabama:
"Does hard of hearing run in your Childres family? Do any of them have twin toes? My family some of their toe next to the big one and the next one is growed up to the nail on both toes. Some of us has it worse than others. I have two kids that growed nearly to the nail. Mine are not too bad but my great grandchildren got it some. Grandma Free would not claim a grandchild if it did not have twin toes - and by the way if you ever got a hurt toe, it had to be the twin toes.
Do you suppose the peculiar characteristics can identify a line cheaper than taking a DNA test?
If anyone in my family has early onset of hearing loss or of twin toes, I never heard of it. However, as we have aged, all of us suffer from some degree of hearing loss.
As for peculiar characteristics, I seem to remember a post regarding the characteristic of big ears in this line.
For those searching for ancestors in Alabama, the writer of the letter quoted above was from Greenville, AL and my Childers ancestors are from Barbour and Dale counties in Alabama.
And, for what it is worth, while at work this past week, I spoke by phone to a woman in Orange Beach, AL who was married to a Childress. She said that there were quite a few of relatives in Orange Beach but just 20 miles away in Robertsdale, AL was another large group by the same name who are not related to them at all.
Have a nice weekend.
Linda
