Hello: I am searching for WILSON CHILDERS b. 1802 in Tennessee. I found a
WILSON CHILDERS in the census but he is not the one altho he might have been
the grnson. WILSON is in the Morgan County, Alabama census 1870 with wife
SARAH who was born in Alabama in 1826. Next to them is Mackie LYLE {AMERICA
CHILDERS LILE} their daughter, who lost her husband in the Civil War. Her
daughter, Mary Thomas Lyle, was my grandfather's grandmother. She married Samuel
Grantland. Does this ring any bells? JUDY
Hi,
Have you done census records for your branch while they were living in those
places? Any other research for each place where they lived? Details? Need
dates, I'll check my files.

Cora Childers is my gg Grandmother. Maudie is my Great Grandmother. There is a 1900 census for Indian Territory, Oklahoma that shows Benjamin and the children, the youngest being Cora at age 2, but Cora Pamela is not listed. So I assume she had to have died sometime between baby Cora's birth and June of 1900. However, all entries for the children show Georgia as being the state in which their mother was born.
Have you found any info since your posting?? I am coming up with nothing but dead-ends. I do know that Benjamin remarried a LuAnne Lee and had 17 more children after Cora Pamela died.

Have you heard of a Barbara Childers, who married a Thomas Barton Parker. Barbara was born in 1816 in York County, South Carolina and died in 1880 in Cullman County, Alabama. Have been searching for her parents for some time....
Believe it or not, I was viewing films at the Latter Day Church today
and came across records on an Asa Childers and Robert Floyd Childers. I
was looking at records of Alabama confederate pensions applications.
May not be the same people, but I thought I would mention it.

I am looking for information on my great grandfather John G. Childers (no dates ). Not sure if John was born in TN. or Ala. His family was living around Pulaski or Blooming Grove area in TN. So far I have looked through 1870, 1880,1900 and 1910 TN. census. Usually John's family was living with his wifes people and 1860 Martha Elizabeth was not married she was only 14 yrs. old. John was married (no date ) to Martha Elizabeth Ray b. Nov. 19, 1844 in Giles Co. TN. d. Aug. 13, 1925 in Giles Co. Blooming Grove, TN. buried at Pisgah Cemetery. They had 3 children;
1. William G. (my grandfather) b. May 28, 1867 Pulaski, TN Giles Co. d. June 22, 1914 Giles Co. buried at Pisgah Cemetery around the Blooming Grove, TN.
2. Jack C. b. Aug. 13, 1872 Pulaski, TN Giles Co. d. Jan. 16, 1894 buried at Center League Cemetery in Johnson Co. TX.
3. Lou Ella b. March 15, 1874 Pulaski, TN Giles Co. d. July 26, 1960 in Maypearl, TX. and buried at Maypearl Cemetery TX. Ellis Co. I do know my great grandparents had nick names John (Gid or Gil) and Martha (Babe). My great grandfather John G. has been a missing link for many years. I have waited to long to ask questions from the family about my ancestors. If you have any information it would be greatly appreciated. Janice

I am writing this in asking for help. I am looking for some information on
a William Childers born in1829 in Knox Co. TN. He was married to a Mary
Lebow and when she died he married her sister Rosy Jane Lebow. They were
married in Claiborne County and he took off and Rosy went to Kensett, Arkansas
where she is burried in the Kensett Cemetary. I am lookng for information about
William's parents who were born in Tn.

Hi Wanda,
Not all of us are working within the DNA projects. It's very complicated
testing and from what I can gather, it cannot be completely conclusive. As for
your husband's ancestry, no matter what anyone says, your husband carries
the name of CHILDERS, period, the end.
I live in Atlanta and personally did some research work at the GA Archives
for several descendants looking for Jesse Childress who settled here before the
Civil War. If I should see anything on your Childers, I'll be sure to let
you know. Our counties were parishes After the counties formed, Franklin was
a busy county for land grants, have you checked there for Childers or
Childress? Most all the counties split after they were founded. Washington -
Wilkes County, GA was the largest with 58,000. Also, I highly recommend any
historical book on GA (sources - fact) from Robert Scott Davis, his work is
detailed, fantastic and reliable! Thank you for writing.
MaryJean Childress - Voegtlin
Mary Jean,
My husband, a CHILDERS, took the DNA test a year or so ago. According to
that, he matches NO other Childers who has taken the test. That being the
case, there seems to be no point in going further with the more expensive
tests. According to Gary, there was a mutation some where back down the
road, so we have no connections to CHILDERS or CHILDRESS.
I have proven the lineage back to John B. Childers in Hancock Co., Georgia.
He was born about 1803 in VA. according to census records. I believe (no
proof) that his father was William Childers, who was living next door to
John B's older sister on the 1820 census in Hancock Co. I only know of John
B. and his two sisters, Catherine and Mary, so no other males in that line,
other than John. B.
I have followed both the CHILDERS and the CHILDRESS list for ages, hoping to
find some connections, but so far, nothing.
Wanda Childers, in Lubbock, TX
