Hi,
Are you saying that your George was born in SC. in 1856 or that his second wife was born there? I'm pretty sure that my George was born in Kentucky. I'm also pretty sure that he died in Mississippi Co., MO. Do you have any more info about your George? I'm not ruling out the possibility that they are the same person. Mississippi Co., MO is not far from the Arkansas border. Also, my George's dad was from Tennessee and so was George's wife, Mattie; so naming one of the children Tennessee sounds pretty logical.

I have a George Washington Childers ( Bud) Married to Mattie Hawkins 1st. then Sarah E.Byerly George born 1856 S.C. Died 1902 Conway Co. Arkansas. children were Tennessee, John, Emma and mamie Childers and there were more children.
The following is my CHILDERS family line.
My father - Leslie B. CHILDERS 1916 - 1987, born in Lumberton, Ms. He was the
third child born to Charley N. CHILDERS born abt. 1889-1893 - died in 1920;
and Fanny Gertrude JONES born 1 Feb 1893 - died 28 Nov. 1995 (yes indeed, she
was 102 yrs old)
Charley believed to have been born near Childersburg, Al. He was killed the
first day on the job as a brakeman for a railroad company that at that time ran
between Gulfport, Ms. and Hattiesburg, Ms. His body was returned to the home
of his mother Ella M. CHILDERS in Hattiesburg. Ella is buried in the large
Hattiesburg cemetery across the street from the library.
Fanny believed to have been born in Jones Co., Ms. She passed away in a
nursing home in Poplarville, Ms. She was buried next to Charley in Lumberton, Ms.
(After Charley's death she remarried and had two other children)
I have been unable to locate g grandfather's name; as on the 1900 MS census -
Ella appears with her 4 sons only and shows her to be a widow.
I also have been unable to find out Ella's maiden name.
As shown on their WW1 Draft Cards - two of Ella's sons spelled their name as
CHILDRES, and the other two spelled it as CHILDERS.
Family names on my father's side are the following: CHILDERS, JONES, LEE
(Wayne Co.), SAXON, OVERSTREET, WEST.
Any information would be most appreciated should you recognize these
collateral family members.

Hey...
I don't know his wife's name, and the KY birthplace is just family lore. I know he was raised by a family of Wrights who supposedly lived in TX for a while. I'm still on the hunt for them.
His son, Robert, was born in 1853, so I'm guessing my John was born around 1830ish.
Sorry I'm not much help! Good luck,
Darlene

I am tracing Childers family line from Alcorn/Prentiss Co., MS.
John Childers supposedly was born in KY, moved to MS where he married and had at least one son - Robert G. Childers (1853). Family folklore also have John going to Atlanta to enlist in the Civil War. His father supposedly was washed overboard from England/Ireland and his wife was pregnant.
Robert G. married Kate McEleye (1878) and had 14 children, one of which was Other A. Childers, whose son is William Oscar Childers (my grandfather).
If any of this sounds familiar, please let me know. The trail stops with Robert so far.
