In conjunction with the re showing of Ken Burns Civil War on PBS this week,
I'll forward the list of battles that your ancestor was in to give you a feel
of what he experinced, as you watch the show. I must have his name and
regiment and state however. Drop me a line and I'll try to get those to you
by tonight before the show! I'll be on line till 8pm central. If I don't get
it for tonights show I'll do my best to have it for tomorrow nights show.
Tonight they will cover Shiloh by the way, a lot of Childers/Childress kin
were there! Might be able to provide the general area of the battle field
where his regiment was as well. Drop me a email or sent an instant message
I'll get right on it. First come first serve!!!!
STARTING TONIGHT THE KEN BURNS SPECIAL "THE CIVIL WAR " WILL BE RUNNING

CEMETERY DIRECTORY</A>
Sent to me,but I couldn't help these fellas maybe some one else can.
Thought perhaps you might have some info for us. We are attempting to locate
a former shipmate in DD545. The man is Jack F Childers, and served during
the Korean War. He was a GM, and served about 1953-55 on the ship.
Supposedly he lived in Belton SC at that time. We have nothing else to go
on. I found one Jack F Childers from SC, but he is deceased. I just need to
verify, if he is indeed the shipmate we are trying to locate. Hope you can
help us out. Figured since you are in to genealogy, you must have run across
a lot of family and non family.
What we came up with, is a Jack F Childers born in 1932, who died in 2000.
Age fits, and we found the deceased was living in Greenwood SC which is 30
miles from Belton. Think we should just give up searching and list him as
deceased?
Thanks for any help you might provide.
