Hello, I am trying to find out who a Washington Childers belongs to? I am traceing my Chism family roots and I ran across Elisha Chism who was in Lawrence county, Ark. 1820, he died in 1827 leaving a will nameing his wife as Wenny, she also went by Winniefred, and he named a son Washington Childers, he left him a roan colt. I think Washington Childers was a step son, perhaps a Child of Winniefred's by her first marriage. This family of Chisms migrated from Tn. Grainger county, Kentucky and Ark. Elisha was a son of John and Elleanor Gillentine Chism of Amelia county, Va.
They left Lawerence county, and migrated to Independence county, and Izard county, along with a Benjamin Chism. I am hopeing someone may know who Winniefred was and also Washington. Thanks Vickie

Maryjean, Martha and List,
As I said earlier, it was announce on the news this morning that their wills
where found in some papers by Buddy Killian. He is a fairly well known person
here, having owned the Stockyard restaurant and also being involved in the
music business. I have no clue how he came to be in possession of them but I
plan to try and contact him about getting copies. He will probably donate
them to the War Memorial Museum here anyway.
I will keep everyone posted as to what I am able to do.
Me being the genealogy nut that I am..........it woke me from a dead sleep
this morning to say the least!
I too believe there was a connection to my John Childress born 1755 in
Cumberland County, VA and Joel Childress, Sarah's father. At an old age, my
John moved to Rutherford County, TN and lived close to Joel and his family.
Lee Rau believes that John's father was a Gracie Childress , we do know that
John's father died in Braddock's defeat the same year that John was born. I
contacted a Ranger at the park in PA and he stated that there is not a list
of casualties of that battle. So this is our brick wall in our line.
More when I know and hugs to Mary Jean! Linda Sue

My father's mother's grandparents have been in my file for a long time. I got my first, and last, information from my grandmother over 43 years ago. She told me all she knew, and I have never been able to find any more information on them during this past 43 years. Their names have just been sitting in my records. They were one of my major brick walls, one that I had decided I would never be able to knock down.
Out of the clear blue sky two days ago a gentlemen contacted me about a post he had seen of mine wherein I had listed these elusive gggrandparents by name only. Thanks to him I can now take them back to mid 1600's, even have pictures of them !! He has opened a whole new avenue of research for me now.
I have seen people complain because they didn't get a response to a post in two or three years. It took me 43 years to hear anything, but eventually I did indeed hear something.

The Eastman Genealogy Newsletter
[http://www.rootsforum.com/newsletter]
reported a new online service that sounds interesting:
Gensolver
http://www.genfindit.com/emp/
provides a place where you can post your brickwalls online with a reward
offered for their being solved (to be paid only if solved).
Eastman expects that this will attract the attention of genealogists with
sufficient skills and access to appropriate records.
The service is located in Australia but the service is global.
This is a piece of new-think that will be interesting to watch.
In about a week, you'll be able to read this newsletter at

I am typing a letter that was written by my great great grandmother Lucinda Elvira Osborne Childers,to her daughter, my great aunt Margaret Elizabeth Childers Sipes on March 8, 1922. It contains nothing earthshaking, just a chit chat letter to show you what they wrote about in 1922. Perhaps some of you will find it interesting:

Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone is researching the Childress family of Richmond Co,
VA. I am trying to find a connection between my Stephen Childress (b. ca
1740-1750 d. 1815) with the Chidress family there. There is a Stephen
Childress in Richmond but his birth would have been prior to the Stephen of
Montgomery Co, VA. Stephen of Montgomery married an Elizabeth and had the
following children:
Elizabeth Childress m. Capt. Robert Elliott;
Boling Childress m. Nancy Lykins;
Andrew Childress m. Catherine Hix;
William Childress m. Elizabeth Dobbins;
Altha Childress m. Jeremiah Richards;
Jane Childress m. Thomas Harrison;
Nancy Childress; and
Jenny Childress.
Thanks for any help,
Mary
Need help on finding the information of Childers families who were in
Hardeman Co., Tenn. in 1860, and were supposed to have enrolled on the Dawes
rolls.
Have the names, but how do I get the ages, and percent of Indian blood.
Tried on the Internet, but could not get an address to write.
Thanks,
Bonnie
