Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
We will be leaving today. I want to leave my cell phone No. Just in case Important news until I get there and find out what the town house phone No. is.
(740) 708-1497 Take care.
I am trying to find the parents and relatives of Milton Joshua Childers (Joshua Milton, M.J.).
I am also trying to figure out if these 2 families (the 1850 MS and 1860 AR) are the same family. Any help would be appreciated. Later this year I am going to post my tiny "Childers" tree on rootsweb.

I received my GG Grandfather's Military record, death certificate and pension applications all in Dec. 2000. Milton Joshua Childers death certificate states that his parents were Andrew and Jane Childers.
I am trying to prove or disprove if the "1850 MS census" family and the "1860 AR census" family are one and the same. This involves the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Ga and SC.
MY "SHOT IN THE DARK" ideas or questions:
1. the 1850 Choctaw, MS family went to Bradley Co, AR. in 1860.
2.Did Andrew meet Jane in Alabama, SC, MS, or GA?
3. Could Jesse L. Johnson be a brother or uncle helping "WIDOW?" Jane with the farm?
4. Andrew died or divorced or took a long vacation..........since he is not listed as the head of the house.
5. If he died or left it was between 1853 (after Lydia's birth) and 1860.
6. Was Jane a Johnson before she married?

Note concerning the Marriage bond and wedding date:
We do not know how much time M.J. Childers had between the SC Battles and Bentonville battle on March 19, 1865. We do not have a full military record but his pension states and we know he was captured in Jonesboro and was later released with his unit. We do not know when he rejoined his unit but his pension record states that he was in the battle of Bentonville, NC.
Jane Sellers and her parents Cynthia and Alsey Sellers most likely lived with his brother Daniel Sellers. His property was almost right next to the Mitchner Train Station. It was the place that the confederates used as a point of arrival and departure. The confederates retreated to here and the last "Grand Review" was here April 9, 1865. Sherman got word on April 9 of Lees surrender. The confederates made their way to surrender in Greensboro and then he came back and married Jane Sellers. Her uncle, Daniel Sellers sold 50 acres of property to John W. Sharpe 2 years later and the NC Railroad moved their depot and train stop to the location and it was named Selma, NC. (possibly after Sharpe's hometown). The land was surveyed and plotted by Charles Massey on May 1, 1867.

Notes for DORA LEE CHILDERS:
My mother personally knew Levi Hughes, as well as some of his brothers and Dora Lee Childers. Mother told me that even though they (Dora Lee and Levi) never married - her father- named Thel Jackson Childers was born in 1908. Dora went to court to keep Thel's name as a Childers. He grew up and hung around several of the Hughes until Thel and his family moved in 1930. Mom has an old fashion "Tin" picture of young Levi Hughes- her Grandfather.
============================
After the Civil War Milton Joshua Childers married, remained and raised his family in Smithfield, NC. Dora Lee told my Mother that they went to go visit all of Milton Joshua's relatives in Arkansas. Dora Lee said she remembered riding the barge (at abt. age 9 or 10) across the Mississippi. She said that David Childers died while they were in Arkansas. Saddened, Milton J. Childers and the rest of his family returned to Smithfield, NC.

Hmmm... guess I forgot those! Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
A move to a new state (new provider, new job, new address, etc) had me
changing a whole lot of things. I forgot the welcome messages.
They've been updated.

The following regiments are known to have been at Gettysburg, from the
order of battle, O.R.
The Childers/Childress that follow belonged to regiments that were there at
Gettysburg. However, this doesn't guarantee they were there given they could
have been on leave, ill, dead, or could have enlisted after July of 1863 but
it does offer the possibilty that they where there. Thus gives a window for
further research.

Well the time has come, work has begun on the Childress/Childers Civil
War, web site. Hopefully, the provider of the space on the web will not
vanish in thin air as the last one I had did.
I'm looking for any Photo's, of any of our family that were in the civil
war. Even if the photo was taken much later. Any letters, written during the
war or after if the war is mentioned. Any little bit of information you might
have even something as simple as burial place and death date.I've collected
many colorful stories, heart touching letters, and interesting facts, pension
files etc. There are over 1200 Childers/Childress that served during the war,
my goal, perhaps one thats impossible is to find out what happened to them
all. But, there's always room for more. If you've sent me material in the
past never fear, I've saved it all on floppies.
Like always I'm up to any questions, queries, extended information on
grandpa in the civil war. But please don't ask me for info about other time
periods or subjects of Childress/Childers genealogy. Mainly because I don't
have a clue, and I feel really bad if i can't help out. My own line has me
confused enough!!!!
WOuld anyone have any information on Isaac Childers, born around 1810 in
Tennessee? He moved to Christian County, Illinois by 1850. I think he died
after 1881, but not sure where he died at I would appreciate any help.

Hi to all:
Does anyone know of this family or can someone check the 1850 census Bradley
Co. Arkansas census for a:
Andrew Childers, Jane age 22, David age 5, Milton age 4, Daniel age 2 and a
possible baby Jane.
===========================
I am looking for an Andrew Childers who had a son named Milton Joshua
Childers. He mustered out of Bradley County, Arkansas for the Civil War.
I do not know any other way to try and find my Milton and Andrew Childers.
His death certificate stated his mother was Jane Childers and the father was
Andrew Childers. I do know that Milton had a child named David. The Milton
below is about the right age as mine.
=========================
This was the only Childers in Bradley Co in 1860
>From Arkansas Bradley Co. Washington Township--Hermitage 1860 census
782-782
Childers, Jane E. 32 Farmer SC
Johnson, Jesse L. 23 SC
Childers, David 15 MS
, Milton 14 MS
, Daniel 12 MS
, Jane 10 MS
, Joseph 8 MS
, Lydia 7 MS
No Andrew is listed in the house
=======================================================
I do not know if this Jane is a Childers or a Johnson. I think this might be
her brother. Maybe she was married to Andrew in 1846 and he died between
1853-60.
These are alot of guesses - I'm just trying to look at all my options which
are not many.
Sincerely,
Charlene Nix

I've just tried to email the list owner in the intro I got when I joined the
list but that mail was returned to me as undeliverable. Would the current
list owner please email me at rw1146(a)aol.com so I can have the correct email
address?
Thanks,

Hello list,
I am searching for information on a James Childers. He was born 7-16-1773 in
Goochland County, VA. His parents were John Childers and Lucy Woodrum.
I am trying to find out if he's an ancestor of anybody on the list. He may,
or may not be the same as James Childress, born 6-28-1773 someplace in VA,
parents unknown.
thanks:)

I'm looking for some talented cousin, to assist me in the creation of a Web
site for all the information I've collected on the Childers/Childress that
were in the Civil War. My son created one for me some time back ,but the site
that had it went out of business. I've tryed learning HTML. but , it's just
over my head., and I just don't have the talent to learn it. (old dogs new
tricks?) There is quite a bit of info, graphics, images of pension forms,
maps, letters, photo's, index's etc. Anyone up to this project? INDIANA JACK
