Desperately seeking information on Sarah Childers who married Thomas J.
James on June 15, 1815 at or near Winchester, TN.
They later lived in Jefferson County, Alabama.
Thomas came from SC so it is possible that Sarah did, also.
ANY information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Listmates,
I found some TN Childress folks listed here and I can't place them. They
*should* be connected to my hubby's line, but.... Specifically, John, Joel
& Benjamin Childress.

OKLAHOMA'S
FRONTIER INDIAN POLice . Originally published in the Oklahoma State Trooper
Magazine
In 1898, Tiger Jack and Jesse Allen were members of a posse that also
included Deputy U.S. Marshal Bud Ledbetter. Jack lived south of Kellyville
and Allen had a ranch southeast of Bristow. The posse was in pursuit of the
notorious Hughes gang, led by three brothers named Hughes. After tracking the
gang, the posse caught up with them early in the morning and a gunfight
ensued. One of the Hughes brothers were killed in the fight. One of the
brothers was captured by Jesse Allen. Ledbetter caught one of the brothers
later in the day. This gunfight took place near the Tuskegee stomp ground in
the Creek Nation. The last brother escaped but was later captured when he
tried to check on his brother who had been arrested. Other famous Creek
Lighthorsemen were Richard Berryhill of the Eufaula District and Daniel
"Goob" Childers of the Weeletka District. Childers, a mixed bl ood Cherokee
adopted by the Creek tribe, was involved in many gunfights and died a violent
death.
My Civil war site is now up, phase I , anyway, a complete index of ancesters
that were in the Civil War. At least all that we could find, (1080 of them,)
since posting this we have found more!! Stay tuned for Phase II the
regimental histories, and personal information on many of the men. Indiana

Family Treemaker's CD #5 "Marriage Index: AR, MS, MO, TX 1766-1981" lists a
marriage for Squire Fullington and Sarah Childers on Jun 18 1856 in St.
Clair Co., MO. Could this be the couple you're looking for? I have other
Childers living in the area, but do not have a link as yet. Do you know
where Squire and Sarah were born?

A more complete history of the hangings in Ft. Smith, Ark., can be read at:
http://www.swtimes.com/living/history.shtml
Scroll down to and click on "Records show 79 hanged under Parker's orders", it states
that seven murderers and John Childers were executed before Judge Parker's time. This
site also tells about Belle Starr, other outlaws, and some of the deputies who served
during Judge Parker's tenure.
Included in the historical articles on this site, are a few about the Civil War in that
area.

I want to thank whom ever it was that gave the address to the Ft. Smith
Historical Site on here. The spelling was not the same on this guy but It
gives me a place to start. A friend that was researching her family history
said she had come across this some years ago, but I didn't know where to find
it. Thanks again

Does any one have any connection to Sullivan Co., Tenn. in the 1860's? I came
across a diary that mentions Childress/ Childers but no first name. I would
like to track this down. It's an account of a fella' that was drafted into
the Conferate Army but was a Union man. Any one from this County? Indiana
Jack

PS sorry if this is not the way this should be handled but I don't have a
great deal of experience on the net, nor do seem to find the time to acquire
the necessary experience.
Thanks again
Jack,
I would be interested in picture of William Childress. Still looking for my
elusive Houston Childress, hoping he may be William Houston or something like
that. I know he was listed as Houston on Civil war roster but who knows....
Thanks so much for your always available help.
Pam
Given the interest I''ve gotten from the picture of William, I see that there
are a lot of new folks out there. So, be it I'll post my standing offer to
assist any one that needs information about Childers/Childress in the Civil
War. As much as I can anyway. Just provide as much info as you can to make it
easier on me to find him. Just a name kinda leaves me at a loss with close to
1300-1400 names, I need at least a state, county or regiment.
And I'm also seeking ANY KIND of stories or family history about Civil War
Childress/Childers etc etc for my web site indiana jack
