Indiana Jack--
First of all, thank you for you active and constructive participation in the
list. I have tremendously enjoyed and prospered by your inputs.
Do you know the first wife of John J. (sometimes "I") childers? This John
was born 1804 in VA., married 2nd in 1848 Sarah Ann Stutler.
I have also been trying to find John J's parents. My best hunch is that
they were William Childers and Sidney Richards who married 17 June 1793. A
Sidnia Childers age 75 in 1850 census (born 1775) lived in Doddridge Co., VA
with Joseph K. Childers and family. Was this John J. Childers' mom?
Any thoughts or leads would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time and consideration.
Doug Linton

I came across a group photo of the 6th Alabama Infantry (Confederate Civil
war Veteran)that might contain a picture of John J. Childers/Childress . Can
any one help me identify him if he's there?

Hi List,
If I may I would like to know if anyone on this list was booted from the
Childress-L list for putting their genealogy views on the list.
I do not wish to stir anything bad but just need to know if anyone feels they
where treated unfairly on that list.
I can say that on this one it has been wonderful and I bow to this list owner!

sent these along. As always I'm open for questions and comments

Regards,

though not pure genealogy this poem is my reason for my civil war obsession
to remember a war that was more terrible than any before or since
I heard my brothers call... distant, from the grave... it called like the
long roll... summoning us to a place and time we had nearly forgotten... We
will not turn away... Was it really so long ago?
I will be as faithful in death as he was in life and I will remember...
not because someone told me that I should, but because I could be no other
way and he would do this for me.
Ever faithful and evergreen... Only those who die young... may remain that
way forever.
They live only because I refuse to let them die. .
One hundred and thirty-nine years ago, our forefathers heard the the call
to
defend their homeland. Hundreds of our family answered the the call, as they
have in every war since the founding of our nation. Yet, this was a different
war. A war not against a foreign invader, or to defend the freedoms of
another nation. This was a war of brother against brother, north fighting
south. It has many names, the war of the rebellion, the war for southern
independence, the war against northern aggression, or the most common the
Civil War.
More American's would died in this war that any other war, before or
since. Every family across our nation would be affected, our's was one of
them. With over 1400 men with the surname of
Childers/Childress/Childres/Childrey, their story needs to be told. I hope to
tell it for each and everyone of them to the best of my ability.
