To All my dear cousins, does any one have any information on a Henry
Childress.
That in Sep. 27, 1799 was a warrantee in a land transaction in Ohio with 5
other men named Bishop, Howard.ONeal, Walker, Hill . This was for 1000
acres. Measured in Metes and Bounds. Also, it was under the Virginia
Military Warrant Act. Having got this land thru this military warrent act
does this imply that hes was in the Rev. war or ? Also, why the multiple
warrantees?
One more Item, any thing on a henry childres that held a land patent on Peggs
Creek both sides of 400 acres? received this Dec. 1 1779, Amherst Co.,Va.
Thought I would share this with all my family members that are in search
of---
Below is a listing of what units were recruited from the different counties
in alabama.
Every state pretty much had the same system. So if you know where grandpa
lived in county A , he more than likely be found in the units recruited
from county A. This is not absout however. For exalmlpe if he lived two
miles away from a large town that was in another county or state for that
matter he could be in their units. It is important to know the location of
his home!! Rare, but some times he could be in the national goverment army
rather than the state regiments. Also, forgive me southern family members,
he could have been in the union rather than the confederacy. No matter what
the state! There were union units from every state. Even in the deep south!
Mountain folks tended to be more union in their feelings.
Then there are the border states ky, md, mo, where any thing goes but the
county recuitment still holds here, just that some areas were union and some
where southern.
Well I hope I helped someone, and didn;t confuse anyone. REMEMBER I'M

Civil War Confederate Regiments from Alabama Counties
The following Alabama counties were established before 1860 and furnished
companies (100 men, ideally) to the numbered Confederate regiments
identified, except one. Often, a county would furnish several companies to
the same regiment; or, more than one county was required to recruit
sufficient men to form a company. Occasionally, too, companies originated
outside of Alabama (from Georgia or Mississippi, for example), and some
Alabama companies served outside the state (in the 1st Mississippi Cavalry,
for example). No attempt has been made to identify how many companies were
provided to a single regiment, and no attempt has been made to identify where
more than one county was used to make up a company.

Good afternoon to the CHILDERS list members,
In my COLE database, I have a JAMES COLE who married HANNAH CHILDS.
JAMES was born November 03, 1655, in Plymouth, MA, the son of HUGH and
MARY (FOXWELL) COLE. I have been unable to locate the parents,
siblings, or children of HANNAH. If anyone on the list has any
information that they are willing to share, it would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have information on an L.G. Childers. He is showing on the
1870 Census, Red River Co., Texas. He is shown as a Chief Justice.
Where would I obtain more information on his title as Chief Justice?
Should I contact a Law School in Texas? Does anyone have information on
this family. I am especially curious about L.G. Childers' son, Joseph, age
7, possibly my gg-grandfather. Is his full name Joseph W. Childers? There
are three names in this family which are the same as my gg-grandfather's
children.
I am curious whether L.G. Childers should be shown as L.C. Childers. I
believe there are people on this list who are searching for an L. C.
Childers.
I can't help but think that several or all of the people listed below are
related to each other. I haven't found a connection yet, but I hope this
is a start.
With much appreciation,
Pat Kallunki

Anyone know anything about them or their 10 children?

I found some Childers listed at the following link. It is a gen site of the
Perrymans, a Creek Nation Indian family who "founded" Tulsa, Oklahoma. May
be of help to someone looking to fit the pieces together in their family tree:

Jack,
I had two great uncles in the Civil War. One John W. Childress was supposed
to have been with the 42nd Ala. Co. I. , not sure of that, but he was in
Tenn. just before the War. Joseph was still in Ala. in 1860.
The other was Joseph H. Childress. May have inlisted in Ark. Also James
Monroe Childress may have been in the War. Ala., Tenn. or Ark.
Sorry I can't give more details, but I have only learned of these Uncles in
last year.
Would love to have more information on their War records.
Thanks,
Bobbie

I have a problem with one of my ancestors and think I need some input from
those who deal with these things daily.
My GGGGrandfather was known as L.C. Childers. That's all I have ever heard
him called. Search as I may, I have never found him on anything, no census,
no ship passinger lists, nothing. Several cousins have wondered if the
initials L.C. could have been mistaken for a nickname. For instance, maybe
it wasn't L. C. but Alcey, or Elcey, a nickname for some other name. I have
found an Alford Childers listed in an 1840 census from NC that sure fits
everything I know about him. Maybe the L. C. is a corrupted prounceation of
A. C., for Alford Childers.
Can we put our collective heads together and try and figure out what L. C.
could mean ? I know that's a far shot, but anything at this point would
enlighten me !
L.C. Childers was born in 1816, place unknown for sure, married Emley M.
Herrington/Harrington and was in NC in 1837 at least long enough to produce
one son named Alford Maloy Childers. I think in 1860 he and family were in
Lamar County, or Red River County in Texas. However, they picked up a bride
for Alford Maloy Childers in Tennessee along the way.
Thanks for any brainstorming !!

Was in Gallia County, Ohio Last week to see Abraham and Rachael Rickabaugh
Childers graves at Rio Grande, Ohio. The last time I was there, about 4
years ago, they were getting in bad shape, could hardly read the names. I
had in back of my mind to see about getting new headstone for Abraham and
Rachael.
In calling around for information on headstones I found the name of the
caretaker of the Old Pine Cemetery at Rio Grande and he told me to call a
Frank Childers in Gallipolis. In talking with Frank I found that he was
related to Mosby through Abraham , then William Marion, and Frank was the
son of John Fredrick. Spent about an hour at Frank's house then we all went
Bob Evans for dinner. Anyway for all of you who are descendants of Abraham
we all owe Frank a debt of gratitude for at his own expense, last December,
he had a a new headstone made and place on the grave. He had some earth
removed and put the old headstone on top of the grave. The new headstone is
just one large piece of stone with both names. As soon as I get the picture
developed I will send the out in an Email to everyone.

Jack,
Thank you so much for sharing your heart-felt story with us! Just about
brought tears to my eyes! How grateful you must be to find your brother after
all these years. I can feel just a small part of what you are feeling, I have
had the joy of finding many cousins, but one in particular is almost as close
as a brother to me now, we call ourselves Twin Cousins, because we are so
much alike :-)
I wish you all the best in your future. I know you will have such a
wonderful time seeing your brother for the first time, after all these years!
We will be thinking about you, and hope you will share your further
incredible experiences with us!

Where is everyone? Just to remind everyone I am still collecting information
on the family in the civil war and what happened to them. There were over a
thousand CHILDERS/Childress and other spellings of men from the South alone
that fought and many from the North (an unknown number as of right now).
>From many different sources, mostly online, I am trying to sort it all out
in some fashion, that would pay tribute to these many brave grandfathers and
those whom never became grandfathers. The end product I hope to offer to all
in effort to contribute to genealogy researchers of the CHILDERS/Childress
now and in the future. ANYONE WITH ANY INFORMATION OR LETTERS, PHOTO'S,
FAMILY STORIES, RUMORS, GENERAL INFO, TRUTH'S, OR HALF-LIES, PLEASE-PLEASE
SENT IT TO ME!!!
So I can include them. Also, as always I am more than willing to
help or try anyhow
