(please let me know if this transfer works I 've got much more)
The list of Childers/Childress men in the war is quite large, being some
2000 or so names just from the confederate states. I have found some names
that are not included from differrent sources. Given this I doubt anyone can
compile a listing that is 100% complete and correct. From my reseach so far I
have yet to find any family from the following states. MA, NH,NY,VT, ME, CN,
NJ, DE,RI.
GA and VA appear to have the largest numbers of men in the war. ( I
haven't counted ) I will start posting the men online bit by bit as I have
time, If any one wants a copy of all the Childers/Childress confederate
troops and Indiana, Illinois as well. You can send me a LSASE, better make it
with two stamps. Also include $2.oo for copy costs. Or, you can wait as I
post them all online. Or, option 3 send me your E-mail address and I'll send
the files of IN, IL that I've got at this time.
I was compiling a listing on card file on 3.11 but system crash
and burned and I had to go to win95 . Cardfile dosen't work on win95 does
any one know of a cradfile like program that goes with win95 or how to convert
it????????????????

Has everyone read "Progenitors and Kinfolk of Abraham Childers III" by
Alberta Marjorie Dennstedt of San Diego, Ca? She spent several summers
studying the Childers / Childress records of the Library of VA. She
completed all of the records except for the Misc. Papers. The original
publishing of her results was in the Virginia Genealogist, 1992(I think). It
has a great deal of information. Barbara Evans
Hi Sandra
Thanks for forwarding this info. I once researched Chilton at the Morman
Temple and found this same census record for Tennessee, but lost the details
as to which County. In another search I found a Tennessee birth record that a
Samuel Chilton was born in 1840. Father is listed as James Chilton. Mother
is Nancy J. Clark. I have wondered but didn't know how to verify if Nancy J.
Clark was the same as Jane, 50 in the 1850 census for Davidson Co. But I
guess you have done that for me by listing the names of the children. Now if
I could just find out a little more about Samuel. He's the right age for the
link. I don't know what County they were from. That is part of my problem.
The names of the children born to Samuel and Adelaide were James William, b.
11/8/70, John, Ella, and Robert. If there is a match they most likely were
born in Davidson County or near Nashville, as you suggest.
If you could look at later census records when you have time that would be
great. I have that Samuel Chilton married Adelaide Mayes (or Mays) in
Tennessee. Samuel died in Tennessee shortly after his children were born.
One of the children was my Grandfather, James William Chilton. Adelaide with
her Father from Texas and the children came to California and settled in the
San Jose area. I'd be greatful for any help as my father is 94, in great
health, but can't seem to furnish me with any hints as to the names of
Samuel's mother, father, or sister and brothers.
Thanks for your help. Martha
I did not know this list was also for CHILTON...I can post both my

Hello all!
My Childers is Charles and Della Childers from MO. Previous to marrying
Charles, Della was a McGuire. Nothing much is known about Charles
Childers grandparents or other connections to the Childers family except
that his father was John Childers who was married to Mildred North.
Mildred died 7 days after giving birth to Charles.
I have extensive information on the North family and have been looking
for more information on Childers from John's line back.
John was born Jan. 24, 1888 (we don't know where or anan that.)

Kim Byers
