I went through ALL the Childs entries in my Nye book. Since I unsubscribed
to the whatever you call it, could you post this information so it will be
available to any interested Childs researcher please? There may be a little
more available, in terms of siblings of people that married into the family,
but if anyone is interested, I cited the source document. Of course, the
Nye book has not been personally proved my me so I do not guarantee its'
accuracy.
Beyond this, I have little to add to Childs research at this time.
Best of luck! I hope this helps make your Nye/Childs connection!

I am interested in a specific Childs family. They appear to have resided in
San Francisco around the turn of the century. The known names were Susie,
Louise and George Childs. It appears that Susie and Louise were daughters
of George.
As a genealogist, I know that this is a very loose query but I will explain
why. In my great grandmothers personal picture collection, she has pictures
of these three people. She labels two pictures as Cousins Louise and Susie
Childs. I do not know how they come to be cousins to my great grandmother.
Should there be someone out there that knew of these people, it would be
very useful.
The family that calls this Childs family cousins are from Sandwich,
Barnestable County, Massachusetts. My great grandmothers parents surnames
were Barlow and Nye.
Does anyone out there know anything about them? My direct e-mail is
phylrick(a)gte.net .
Should I find a person who knows about this family, certainly I would be
willing to share scans of the pictures.
I am interested in any info on John Childers, dob 1/29/1822, listed in the 1850 census of Newberry, SC. John was married to Margaret Cleland and had one daughter Mary Francis. The family is listed in
Pickins County, SC in the 1860 census. After that I have no further info on John, who may have been killed in the Civil War. I am interested in his parents, siblings and any pertinent information.
Thank you,
Donald Childers

I wanted to post to this list just in case any of MY Childers would be
interested. I say MY Childers because I have never found a connection with my
Childers to any other Childers anywhere around the country!
Every year we have what is called a Cemetery Gathering. I think that name
goes back to the days when they all got together to clean up the family
cemetery, kind of like Memorial Day. Nowadays the Board of Directors for the
cemetery takes care of all of that type of thing, so we all just get together
to eat pot luck, gossip, trade information, take pictures and seek pictures. To
all intents and purposes it is a family reunion, but they still call it a
Cemetery Gathering, or Cemetery Working.
It is held in a private family owned cemetery called Lone Star. At one time
there was a community called Lone Star, composed primarily of Childers and
their inlaws. The community is no longer in existance. Lone Star Cemetery
contains the graves of descendants of Alfred Maloy Childers and Lucinda Elvira
Osborn Childers, along with a few friends. Among the names buried in Lone
Star are Childers, Humphrey, Smith, Welch, Shelton, Childres, Childress,
Cagel. There are more but I can't remember them all. The cemetery is built
in an L shape and in the crook of the L are permanent tables and a pavillon.
Folks start showing up about 8:30 AM to spread out their delicious home
cooked food. Last year over 500 people attended from all across the country.
Kids play in the dirt, old folks sit and recall the past, young folks get in
touch with their roots. I always feel spiritually renewed after going to Lone
Star where I walked the earth my ancestors did, where I sat under the very
trees my ancestors sat under.
Lone Star Cemetery is located a little out of Clarksville, Texas. From
Clarksville you go East on Highway #82 until you see the Regional Hospital on
your right. Immediately past the Hospital you turn right onto a little strip
of a road. Go about a half mile until you come to Highway #37. Turn right
and go about three miles down Highway #37 until you see a sign saying
Cemetery. Follow the blacktop road on the left side of Highway #37 until you
find the cemetery. This blacktop road is narrow, lined with houses and turns
and twists a lot, but you won't be able to miss all the cars parked around the
cemetery. The reunion is usually grinding down in mid-afternoon.
I am going to include a small listing of the descendants of Alfred Maloy
Childers for those of you who might wonder if you are related:

NEED: HELP: CHILES...... FAMILY.....
1. Good Extract or copy of 25 Nov 1671, order of the council, through Wm
Berkley, grant to Susanna Giles/Chiles, Lee Papers, Mss1L51f673.
Does this document say John Chiles is the eldest son of Walter
Giles/Chiles
decd. & ye said Susanna his wife. I have read about 5 different extracts of
this document each one says something different. Can someone please read the
darn thing or send a copy and let us all know if it really says son of
Susanna.
2. Does Henry WEBBER with wife Jane have a will & does it state somewhere
within it that Eleanor widow of Walter Chiles wife of Henry Waddington is his
daughter or does it say that John & Henry Chiles are his grandchildren. I have
been told it does & told it does not. So can someone please read & supply a
good extract or a copy of said docment....Please.
3. Does anyone have the article by Brame from the Omnibus (Augustan Society
Quarterly) BOOK 12, p. 110 (maybe other pages) who could send an extract or a
copy of said article. Does it say that the assumption in an earlier article
that Walter Chiles parentage is solved is incorrect? What else does it say
that
is important to this linage.
4. Does anyone know the names of the said daughters sisters to Walter
Chiles d.
1760 Amelia Co., VA, said to be the children of John & Mary Boucher Chiles.
