I am looking for information about Charles Louis Childers (my gr gr
grandfather). Outside of the fact that he was born in Virginia before
1860 (I believe in pre-state West Virginia), and that he had left his
first wife and children before 1885, I don't have anything else about his
background. I do, however, have info from his second wife and progeny
(sp?). He married Anna Kenney (from the census records...my family had
someone else...I have to ask my gr aunt), moved to Parkersburg, WV, and
had three children: Charles Okey (9 Jan 1886), Edna (1888), and Roy
(1900).
Edna married Charles Stuckey, and had two daughters: Imogene and Carolyn.
Roy married Ida Muncy. None of my sources had any information about any
children.
All the info for Charles Okey Childers, I can give to whoever is
interested. I would appreciate any filling in of the blanks.
I also have a question...are a lot of Childers fisherpeople? Not by
occupation necessarily, but do they fish? It's true for my branch for the
last few generations, so I was wondering if it was true elsewhere.
Thanks a lot for setting up this list, WIMC.

This is my Chiles line. I hope if someone connects, they can help me sort
them out....the Chiles are awfully difficult...they seem to have married a
lot of times and had varied children with different spouses...easy to confuse.
Susannah Chiles (1772 in Spottsylvania County, Va. - 15 January, 1854). She
married William Day. Their children were
John Henry Day, Phoebe Carr Day, Walter Chiles Day, William
Overton Day, Mary A.E. Day, Louisa Ann Day, Mildred Day, Charles Morris
Day, Sarah Agnes Day, Elizabeth Elba Day.
Susannah Chiles was the daughter of Walter Chiles ( 1699 - 1779...Virginia)
and Phoebe Carr. Their children were Susannah, Ann, Agnes, Thomas, Sarah,
Elizabeth, Hulda, Phoebe and Carr.
Walter Chiles was the son of Henry Chiles and Mary Littlepage.
Henry was the son of John Chiles and Eleanor Webber.
John was the son of Walter Chiles (c. 1636 in England - c. 1971 in
Virginia) and Mary Page.
Walter was the son of Walter Chiles and Elizabeth.
Thats as far as Ive gone, all from my aunts file papers for her
application to Colonial Dames. I still find it confusing, and would love to
understand these folks and go back.
Bruce ,I have these notes:
Abraham Childers bc 1622 in Nottingham Eng, dc 1678 in Henrico Co, Va.
Wife was Ann Howard bc 1620 and dc 1681 in Henrico Co VA

Sorry that I can't give you hard dates/locations on this Ellender CHILDERS, nor can I really affirm that the above mentioned Daniel and Adam are actually "brothers". Information that I have been able to uncover indicates that both had parents with the "same names" - but no confirming information has yet come across my files.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to review this, for your consideration, and for any anticipated future response.
Continued good luck to each of you as you continue your own genealogical research.

Hello everyone! I am new to the list and could use some assistance. I am
looking for info regarding the marraige of Sarah Child, b Roxbury MA 5-19-1746
dau of Edward & Sarah. She supposedly m at Roxbury 1-20-1771 James Wheaton, b
2-14-1748 son of unknown parents. James & Sarah removed to Windham Co, CT
where a daughter Sally was born in 1791 at Abington. Sally died 1864at Oxford,
MA. This is where my confusion starts. Her death record lists Sarah Slade as
her mother. But "The History of Woodstock, CT" gives Sarah Child. Is anyone
familier with this family who can give me the correct mother? Thank you in
advance. Karen
Hi! I'm new to the list. I have been working on my close branches, and
stumbled upon this list. I hope some of you all can help me.
I was wondering if anyone new information on Charles Louis Childers. I
don't have too much information. He left his first family circa late
1870's, married Anna Kenney, and had three children in Parkersburg, West
Virginia: Charles Okey Childers (9 Jan 1886-4 Apr 1954), Edna Childers
(born circa 1888), and Roy Childers (b. 1900- 19??). I have information
on Charles Okey Childers' decendants (he's my great-grandfather), and hope
to help you all out in piecing me to you.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Carroll,
Hate to get caught in a lie to a family memeber I just met, but I DO
have the names and some particulars about Esquire's and Melinda's kids,
after all.
Here's what I know about Roda's siblings:
Nancy Childers, b 1837
Mary Childers, b 1839
John Childers, b 1841
Orlena Childers, b 1843
Roda Childers (I had 1845, but you're probably right was 4/27/1846)
Isom Childers, b 1847
Jacob Childers, b 1848.
Also have some descriptive info about Esquire.
Lemme know.
David
Carroll,
A link! How about that!
I was unaware of who (E)squire Childers children were, but Esquire
Childers' wife is Melinda Fortenberry, born 6-18-1837, and died in 1867.
Esuire himself was born in 1814, I believe in Va., probably Russell or
Scott County.
Esquire's brother, Alexander Crockett Childers, is my
great-great-grandfather, born 9/3/1811 in Virgina, died 2/22/1861 in
Lawrence Co., Ark. . He married Matilda Fortenberry, Melinda's sister.
Matilda was orn 2/6/1834.
Esquire's father and mother were indeed Isom Childers and Mary ("Polly")
Childers (nee Ritchie, or perhaps Crockett). They did live in Russell
Co., Va., and moved to Lawrence Co., Ark., after 1830.
Their children:
James R. Childers, b 1804 in Va, d 1863 in Ark., m. Sarah Carter, on
6/18/1825, 7 children (four older of his five sons died in the Civil
War)
Elizabeth Childers, b 1808 in Va, d 1855 in Lawrence Co Ark, m
Charles Buster on 6/22/1824 in Scott Co Va, 6 childen, later m William
Shelton.
Alexander Crocett Childers
Esquire Childers.
Nancy Childers, b 1818, m William Stuart on 4/5/1832 in Lawrence Co,
Ark, later m Joseph Finley
Joseph Childers, b 1820, d after 1860, m Polly Wayland, on 3/5/1835,
later m Sarah (?), before 1850.
Isom is supposed to have been a War of 1812 vet, but I haven't been
able to prove that yet. He's where I'm stuck. I'd love to know more
about him and Polly. I just know they started off and lived in Russell
and Scott Co., Va.
I've got lots more stuff about this family, probably more than you
care about. Would love to help any way I can. I'd love hearing what you
know, as well.
Nice to meet you, cuz!

dont know if you need parentage of mary polly ritchie or not, but i would
suggest looking for alexander crockett ritchie, the name runs strong in the
ritchie family. these ritchies originated in va, went to ky and some came
back to va. one place of settlement in ky was perry and then knott co ky.

I am looking for Rhoda (Roda) Childers (Childress) b. April 27, 1846 was
born in
Arkansas. After scouring through all the census records, I only came up
with one possibility. The 1850 Census for Lawrence Co. lists a Roda as
the daughter of Esquire and Melinda Childress. Nearby families lead me
to believe that Isom Childress and Mary Ritchie were the parents of
Esquire and Alexander C. (Crockett) Childress. Esquire is also listed
in some tax records as Squire. Both Childers and Childress spellings
are common. A listing in the 1860 Census in Van Zandt Co. (this is
where Rhoda Childers married) has a S. C. Childress of the same age
(plus ten years of course). By the dates of the children born in
Arkansas, they would have moved from Arkansas to Texas about 1854.
Does anyone have any information that might help me confirm my
conjecture? I've been looking for this link a very long time and would
appreciate any help you can offer.

Hi! New here, hoping to find some links!
Here is what Childress information I have. If I can help you, or if you

Thanks.

I do not have any information on your William Childers, but see that he was
in Orange Co., IN at the same time my John Childers (and also Richard
Childers) was there. John Childers married Ursula Demoss in 1826 in Orange
Co., IN and had children: James, b. 1826, Nancy Jane, b. abt 1830; Richard
C. b. 1832, Mary Ann; Andrew; Elizabeth; Joseph William; Lucinda, b. 1837
in Texas Co., MO; John Lafayette, b. 1842 in MO; Solomon, b. 1843 in MO;
and Martha Emaline born 1850 in MO.
Census records say John was born in Tennessee. Was in Orange Co., IN by
1826. Then it appears my family moved from Indiana to near Springfield,
Missouri about 1836-37. Moved to Arkansas about 1851.
Does Abraham's will mention a son, John?
