Sharon,
Perhaps you can help, or this ties in somewhere. Your mention of Amhurst
Co., Va. for Ambraham Childers got my attention.
My great-great-great Gfa is an Isam or Isom Childers, born 1785 in Wise
or Russell Co., to the west of Amhurst Co. He was a War of 1812 vet,
maried Mary ("Polly") Crockett (or Ritchie), and moved to Lawrence Co.
Ark after 1830. All their children were born in Va, apparently: James C.
b 1804, Elizabeth C. b 1808, Joseph C. b 1810, Alexander Crockett C.
(my G/G Gfa), b 9/3/1811, Esquire C. b 1814, and Nancy C. b 1818.
Seems as though many of us have the Childers coming from Va. originally,
then moving to somewhere else.
Beyond wondering if you know anything about Isam/Isom, I was also
wondering if you knew anything about the Childers-Virginia tie-in, and
were they come from. I've heard the anme is French, and I was wondering
if they were Hugenots, if there was a Malungeon tie-in (considering
they're in the western part of the state), etc.
Thanks very much!

Marie:
I don't know if this information will be of any use to you, but I do have
records on an Abraham Childers who was in Kentucky. A long-shot guess
would be that your Joseph could be his grandson (although I don't know that
any of this family was in Illinois).
I have a typewritten transcription of the Revolutionary War Pension
Application R-1922 for Abraham Childers. He resided in Amherst County, VA
when he entered the service. In roughly 1832 he moved to Perry County,
Kentucky. He died in Letcher Co., KY in 1849. His wife was Elizabeth and
his children were: William, Francis, Polly, Dicy, Abraham Jr., Elizabeth,
Goldsby and Seley.
I believe I am descended from Mosby Childers who might've been Abraham's
brother. There is still enough doubt and not sufficient evidence to make
that connection on my line. My earliest proven ancestor is John Childers
born 1803 in Tennessee. This family moved to Orange County, Indiana and
later to Missouri and Arkansas.
Let me know if you think any of this information might be pertinent to your
line.

Hi:
I'm probably not going to find any ties, but I have a line of Childers that
have not been fruitful. This name ends with my g-grandmother and I have had
no luck.
1. Joseph Childers b 1845 in Il m in Ky d unknown
+ Martha Jordon b 1848 in Carter Co. Ky. d unknown (her father ws John
Jordon b 1811 in Ky and wife Louisa unknown b 1822 in Ky.
Joseph and Martha had:
Charles H. Childers b 1869 Il
James Francis Childers b 1873 in Il
Cora Bell Childers b 4-18-1875 Il m 1897 Il d 11-12-1944 White Co. Il
she married Henry Varse Healy (this is my direct line)
John C. Childers b 1877 in Il
I have no further info on the Childers!!
Thanks for any help.
Marie
For more years than I need to admit, I have worked on the Childers families in
York, Spartanburg, Union, Chester, and Cherokee Counties in South Carolina. I
have aquired a lot of information about these families. Is there anyone out
there that ties back to these Childers that needs to swap some information? My
particular line goes back to a Jacob Childers who moved into the S.C./N.C.
area in 1763. Jacob fought in the Revolution and died in York County, S.C. in
1844.
I am trying to find out all I can on Sturman/Steerman (name has been
found spelled both ways) of Loudoun Co., VA. His wife's name was Mary
___?___. He may be my 5th great grandfather through his daughter Ann
"Nancy" Chilton married to John Cockrill.
His parents were John Chilton m. to Ann Stewart.
I have 10 children for him, but only have children for two of the 10.
I would appreciate any help i could get on this family.
Thanks
Earl

HELP!!
My 3rd Great parents were Ezekiel Staggs,b 1794, SC, and Elizabeth CHILDENT, b 1793, SC. They show on the 1850 Pontotoc County, Mississippi, Census. Their son, Eli, is my mother's, maternal grandfather (mother's, mother's mother's, father). Does anyone have that variety of Child-whatever, surname?.
Ezekiel Staggs was supposed to be Cherokee, and moved to Arkansas. So did Eli, who married Berry sisters. Please see my page that explains my research problems.
Thank you.

In the following article, his father is referred to as Justice meaning
that he was an officer of the court rather than his name being Justice.

Chiles,Nathan spostylvania Co. Va.
Master: John Word. Occupation shoemaker/tanner
Beginning date 30 March 1739 Ending date:unspecified
sex male
Father Justice Chiles deceased race white.
On petition of John Word the have Nathan Chiles a poor orphan, the son of
Justice Chiles, bound to him the said child being parentless and the said
Word his Godfather,
bound said child to him until he comes of age.
My question is.
Is it possible the father'd name was Justice Chiles???

Hi Everyone:
I would like to thank the many many emails I have received regarding the
Obituary webpage. There are too many for me to respond to individually so I
want to thank everyone for all your support.
First of all, I want to say I did not post to the lists to get a pat on the
back for all the work I have done. But it is so much appreicated. Instead
continuing to answer the emails, I thought it would be more productive to
let everyone know why the webpage is not easily searched as you may like it
to be. For the moment, please use your browser to search for a name or a
date. I will continue to try to make it easier for you to search.
I will have to confess that the negative emails I received did make me
wonder if the work was being used as it was intened. But, now I realize
there are more people using the page with positive results than negative ones.
I also received suggestions to improve the webpage and it will be taken into
consideration and hopefully result in a better webpage for everyone. Any
help or suggestions are very much appreciated.
I will continue to update the webpage, I am only half finished with the books.
Again, THANK YOU, ALL OF YOU for letting me know how valuable the these
obits are to you. I am so glad, it is what I wanted to provide for you.
Just be patient and I will work at making it a better webpage.
