Hi,
Since others are sharing, I thought I would provide some of the data I found several years ago when researching Henrico Co., VA wills and administrations, and also in a few land records. Most of these did not have any obvious connection to my Joseph Price Childress, and my notes are not complete, but perhaps would be useful to someone.
WILLS AND ADMINISTRATIONS:
Jacob CHILDRESS [v.2, pg. 403] will names wife Jane, son John, daughters Sally and Patsy. Proved in 1797
Joseph PRICE [V.3, pg. 43] will names wife Lucy, and six children: Daniel, Elizabeth, Robert, Mary, Lucinda and Henry. Proved 1802.
Frederick CHILDRESS [v. 1, pg. 211] will names wife Ann, son Abraham and others. Written 1784, proved 1785].
Elizabeth CHILDRESS [v. 4, pg. 48] she was the wife of Joseph and gave everything to him - written May 21, 1810, proved June 1810. [note says - mother Elizabeth WARRINER?]
John CHILDRESS [v. 4, pg. 257] there was an accounting in 1811 by Jordan CHILDRESS.
Patsy CHILDRESS [v. 7, pg. 288] will mentions sister Sally CHILDRESS and nephew John CHILDRESS, son of her brother John. Proved in 1829.
Bolling CHILDRESS [v. 10, pg. 335] will named wife Judith, and at her death, 1/3 to children of his brother William, 1/3 to children of his brother Frank, and 1/3 to children of Reuben CHILDRESS (by his sister Ann). Written Jan 1833, proved Dec. 1839. Witnessed by Joseph P. CHILDRESS [my ancestor] and Samuel PLEASANTS. [Note: Marriage records show that Reuben Childress married Ann Childress in 1815. I wonder if my Joseph P. Childress was a brother of Reuben.]
Alexander CHILDERS [v. 10, pg. 343] will names son Meredith, daughter Elizabeth Childers, son Allen Childers, dau Judith Gill (and her dau Mary Ann Lock?), daughter Frances Knew (and her daughter Rebecca Childress), son Joshua Childress, and Alexander's wife Temperance. [proved 1837 - 1841]
Francis CHILDRESS [v. 14, pg 476] will gives everything to his wife Eveline R. Childress. If she is deceased, then all goes to a church.
Also, I made a few notes from the Grantor indexes [1800 - 1867], and looked at a few Henrico Co. deeds.
Regarding Joseph Price CHILDRESS, the most important deed [24:108] was written on 28 Apr 1823 and stated that Joseph P. Childress of Henrico Co. for $1 and various promises, granted to Francis Childress, for the benefit of "my three sons, to wit, John, Abraham, and Augustus Childress" two horses, one dozen chairs, one bed, some other furniture, etc,, some hogs...recorded 3 Oct 1825.
LAND RECORDS:
Also, in 1848 [53:350] there was an indenture between Joseph P. Childress of the 1st part, and Charles S. McCaul of the 2nd part, and John T. Childers of Richmond of the 3rd part. Joseph P. Childress is indebted to John T. Childress for $50 - he sells to the 2nd party a horse and cart from Augustus Childers.
Would love to hear from any other people researching Childress in Richmond or Henrico Co. after 1800.

Searching for the husband of Lucinda Childress (b. 1827 Warren Co., KY)
daughter of Samuel Childress (b.20 Oct 1772, VA) and Susan Burris (b. ca
1800, KY)
Hi Gang,
I'm new to this group. Can anyone help me identify our granny?
Synthia Emmerine Childers b. Jan 28 1832 TN, d. Apr 5 1921, buried Climax
Springs, Camden Co., MO. Her mother and father were both born in Virginia.
She married Oscar Tapp b. 1820 VA or TN. Known children: James M., Mariah
Tennessee, Mary E., Missouri. They were living in St. Clair Co., MO in
1860. In 1880, Synthia was living with a niece, Susan Tapp in Benton Co.,
MO. No one seems to know what happened to Oscar. Synthia was a midwife
known as Granny Tapp and raised many children besides her own.
I'm trying to find parents of both Synthia and Oscar--does anyone have
anything on them? Or any general background on the Childers family.
Thanks for your help.
Val
the problem is no one really has records on the parentage of pleasant
childers. i think he might have been a son of john who was a son of abraham.
they are linked, its just finding the link. he did have a flemon. i think
that goes back to the philomen name that ran in the early childers family.
sometimes we will never find proof, so we can just speculate for the rest of
our lives.
Well now, you all have me on pins and needles over this Pleasant Childers and
another Childers named Philemon. And they aren't even my line!!! Not to
confuse anyone, but are Pleasant and Philemon related? Philemon came from
Abraham Childers of those many many Henrico Co.,VA Childers, but I haven't
seen anywhere that Pleasant came from (Pleasant who married Elizabeth
Jefferies), and Pleasant had a son named Flemon, which sounds kind of like
Philemon, and that keeps getting me confused between the two lines. And I
wish you would all quit talking in private about these things, I miss so
much!!! Jack Childers.
Hi Ed Davidson ,
Nathaniel's daughter, Mary Jane, married William Holmes of Saltville.
Census records show both the
Childers' and Holmes' families in Smythe Co mid 1800's. Mary Jane and
William were my great grandparents.
By that time the census records are showing Childress. Evidently Nathaniel
and his children, except for
Mary Jane moved over to Richlands. Did you know that Nathaniel Childress,
along with the Buskills, who
were related through the Holmes line, were the ones who started the First
Christian Church in Richlands?
Mary Jane (called Molly) did not come to Richlands until the death of
William Holmes in the early 1900's
They would have came around 1910. I have talked with people at the church
who are involved with the
church records, but although they know about Nathaniel, they have no
records on him. They have lost
the records for that time. I was hoping that I could find when he died and
where he was buried. I do
know that Mary Jane is buried in the Hankins Cemetary and that your branch
is in the Clinch Valley
Cemetary. I will be happy to send what I have on the lines. Did you see
the e-mail to me that gave
some addresses of some who are working on this, too. Evidently, there has
already been alot of the
information we are searching documented. I haven't contacted the
individuals, yet.
My line:
Nathaniel Childers/Celena Taylor
Mary Jane Childress/William Holmes
Vick Holmes/Margaret (Maggie) Lawson
Alvin Holmes/Betty Burress
Patricia Holmes/Farley Christian

I am a descendent of MARTHA A. CHILDRESS, born Sept. 15, 1813, Halifax
Co. VA. She was a daughter of FLEMING CHILDRESS (b. 1781, d. Nov. 28,
1845) & ELIZABETH (BETSY) BOYD CHILDRESS (b. 1788, d. Feb. 12, 1845).
FLEMING AND BETSY CHILDRESS were married in January 1808 in Halifax Co.
VA. They came to Spencer County, IN, in the late 1830's and are both
buried in that county. I would like to know if anyone else is
researching that family, or if someone might have information which
would be helpful to me in finding out the parentage of FLEMING
CHILDRESS. I do know the family had ties with North Carolina as well as
Halifax Co. as one of their sons stated in a biographical sketch that
his education was primarily in North Carolina. I am willing to share
any information I have of the family with anyone. Thank you. Marilyn

Gloria:
I have John's DOB as 1840, so missed this posting
at first. I keep all e-mails on family names, though,
and just happened to see Lydia's name this morning.
Don't think I will be of much help, because I think
you may have the info. The only thing I have is a
daughter's name, Winnie Childers. I don't have any
info on her. She was just listed in a paragraph in
some records. Her real name was probably Winifred
or something. I know John's father was Fleming
Childers.
I'm still looking for Lydia Bartley's parents.
Oh, BTW, I kept trying & trying and your homepage
would never let me into the RATLIFF page. I think
because it was with AOL. My Netscape keeps saying
that page is not on this server.
But, I wanted to tell you what an excellent job you
have done with the obit pages. I saw many
names that were mine, if and when I can make the
connections. There were a couple connections I was
able to make just because of your obits.
Keep up the excellent job, and let me know about
the Childers.

Wilma,
The only home page I have is through FTM and it only lists my lines. I am
not computer literate
and internet wise enough to venture into creating a page. Maybe, someday!
<g>
Thanks for the date. Actually, Fleming and Charity are my direct line. I
descend through
Fleming's son, Nathaniel who married Sylena Taylor -- another line I'm
stuck on, along with Matney.
I think that Charity's father may have been Brooks Matney or Walter Matney.
Still working on that.

Looking for information on Robert Childers, b. 1812 in Virginia. The 1850
census lists him being 41 yrs. (1809) in Kentucky, but have information
leading me to believe he was born in 1812. He married Jane VanHoose and
they had numerous children. I desend from Henry Childers, one of their
children. They lived in the Louisa, Ky area (Eastern KY). Would also like
any information on Harden Childers, brother to Henry. He was married to
Angaline Hays in 1878 and lived in Southern Ohio.
I have been to Johnson, Lawrence, Floyd County,KY courthouses and will be
going to Frankfort within the next couple of months. I wouldn't mind
looking up information for anyone, just let me know. Thanks and good luck
to all in your endeavers. I would sign off as Bob Childers, but better

Alford Maloy Childers was born in Lincoln County, NC in 1837 of parents L.C.
Childers and Emley Herrington Childers. He would have been 3 years old for
the 1840 census and 13 for the 1850 census. I cannot locate either census
online and cannot get to Lincoln County NC to look for myself. Would
appreciate someone there on the spot to take a look at the 1940 and 1850
census to see if this family is listed. Would especially like to know of any
siblings of Alford Maloy Childers, what the initials L.C. stood for, almost
any informatin would help at this point. If there is some good hearted
Childers relative in Lincoln County, NC who would do this for me I will be
more than glad to do a look see for you if you need Oklahoma information. Or
are these census online and I just don't know where to look? Let me know,
Jack Childers at JChild8629(a)aol.com
Frances CHILDERS married Thomas Sidney MCDUFFIE 1850 in Cherokee Co., AL. Who
were her parents and siblings?
Does anyone have a CHILDERS family in Cherokee or Etowah Co., AL????????
If so, can you fit my Frances b. 1833 into your family.?
On the 1850 census she did not live with her parents. No will or probate was
found. She died early and Thomas McDuffie married again. I hate to leave her
forgotten. She should be remembered.
