Tom or Bill had a son Cecil, who raised polo ponies. - He lived near

who became a psychiatrist.

shure.

Hi Childs researchers,
I've just added a page to my web site that those of you
researching Cape Cod Childs might be interested in.
I've transcribed what Amos Otis said about the family
in his "Genealogical Notes of Barnstable Families."

Hello, list;
This is another message I saw but while I was having E-mail
problems, I could not answer.
I have a fairly large data file on President John TYLER and as I
recall, it contains the CHILES/CHILDS line.
Always glad to add to that data, always glad to exchange. Although
my maiden name is TYLER I have not found a link to the President as of yet.

Does anyone else remember that newspaper artical and or does anyone
know how I could contact them? Or does someone know if another organization
has already traced the tree of the female who married Polk? In all the time
I have prowled the net I don't think I have ever seen a mention of this
Childers/Childress wife of President Polk and that strikes me as unusual.

One thing you need to keep in mind is that there is a nordic name, Kjelson,
which Anglicizes to "Chilton". I sometimes suspect that some of my lost
Childerstons became Chiltons to simplify the name. This was recorded as
happening in England in where everyone stayed in the same village their
whole lives. Very hard to trace and document in America where everyone
moved every few years.

My grandfather was James William Chilton, born Nov. 8 abt 1870 in Tennessee.
His father was Samuel Chilton, and his mother was Adelaide Mayes from Texas.
Offspring are:
James William Chilton
John Chilton
Ella Chilton
Robert Chilton
Adelaide, her father, and the four children came to live in California after
Samuel died.
I found a Samuel Chilton in the 1840 Tennessee birth records. Father is James
Chilton, Mother is Nancy J. Clark. I have not been able to verify if this is
a match. Does anyone have information on this line?
Thanks, Martha
In researching the Virginia Childers/Childress family, I have always
found the following family to be more prone to spelling the name
Childrey or Childre. I used to think it was a misspelling but it seemed
to hold for more than one generation. I have not worked much on this
family however. Especially confusing is: I think this Thomas is
grandson to Philemon and son of Thomas. Anyone else find them with this
spelling?

While we are making suggestions about "tweaking" the list, if this list is
supposed to include those researching the CHILES name, I would like to see CHILES
added to the list of names in the "signiture" file.

For any other CHILTON researchers out there. I've had very little luck with
my own research, but I thought the following might be of interest. There was
a CHILTON family on the Mayflower, father, John (?), mother, & teenage
daughter, Mary. Both parents died in the crossing and Mary m. a Winslow so
she had no CHILTON desc. I have been told that Mary had a brother who came to
America later.
Also, I understand the Mel Gibson movie "Braveheart" is considered to be quite
accurate historically. The villan in the movie, the English nobleman, is the
EARL OF CHILTON.
Does anyone know of work on these two lines? Questions? Comments?
Confirmation? Denial?
Hi cousins,
Would those of you who have CHILDs in Mass circa 1700-1800
take a look to see if you find this young woman in your trees?
I can find nothing about her in the local records beyond her
marriage, and think she might have been a widowed first wife of
a CHILD instead of a CHILD daughter.
I have Thankful, who married Japhet TURNER (his second marriage,
so could it also be hers?), in Barnstable, MA, on 13 May 1774. Her
marriage record calls her Thankful CHILDS, and her childrens' death
records suggest she may have been born in Mashpee or Barnstable.
I would guess that Thankful's birth would have been about 1747 or
later, based on her age at the time of her last child's birth. That
would
have her in her mid 20's at the time of her marriage, certainly old
enough
to be a widow of a young CHILDS husband.
Japhet TURNER came from Middleborough, MA, and married first on
21 Apr 1763, Elizabeth HILLMAN in Chilmark, MA, if that provides any
clues.
Would anyone have a male CHILDS ancestor in their files, who died
before 1774, with a wife named Thankful, probably in Barnstable Co,
or Plymouth Co?
Thanks for looking!
Bobbie

Sorry to address the entire list, however I do not have an address for
Robert.
I am related to the same person, however about six months ago I
learned that it is not William, but Joshua. I have a great deal of
information on him and the entire family that I would be glad to share
with you and anyone else researching this family, if you email me
directly.
Good luck with your research.

Although I can't get parents for my Richard yet, I've been following the
discussion of the original immigrants with interest. It is entirely possible
that there was only one Philemon who emigrated. There was a regular "racket"
in headrights... people will ever figure out ways to cheat the system... and
people might become headrights after just a trip for business or pleasure even
though they had already immigrated. I suppose, though I don't know, that the
beneficiary of their landing must have either financed the trip or paid them
in some way. Does that muddy the waters even more?

Convinced Richard Childers was an outer space alien...
Hi Jim,
Thanks for your rather generous reply. There are several facts that
I have not seen before. I have access to the Valentine Papers, but
I must learn to read more carefully. I get to thinking about one
family line and forget the others as I'm going through. I saw
somewhere (lost in my files, I guess) that Philomen Childers and
Nicholas Perkins, Jr. bought some property together around 1680
which was later, about ten or so years, deeded over to Philomen. I
have seen the use of "cousin" several times when that was probably
not was meant (at least to our way of thinking today). As you can
probably tell, I only have the one tie to the Childers family, the
original Abram (Abraham) and his daughter Sarah. But, I have
severasl other family lines that siblings and cousins do tie up
again. Unfortunately these are not in my data base, as I only
record siblings and rarely their spouses and never their children.
Thanks again and Aloha!!

How true!
I concur with Robert's recommendation and hope you will consider changing
it back to the way it was.

I have been lurking on this list for awhile now and have not seen any
mention oy my particular name variation which is "Childre". Has anyone
run across any information or mention of this variation? I am also
looking for a middle name that is used with this spelling. The middle
name of "Squire" has turned up in each generation (usually on the fourth
male child)as far back as I have been able to go. No living family
member has a clue as to the tradition or meaning, if any, of this name.
Any help would be appreciated.

I would hate to think that we on the list would miss something due to the
reply going back to the sender instead of the list. While we are all looking
for ancestors and it could never be said that we wouldn't share, sometimes we
forget to post, especially if we have found something we have been especially
looking for. The elation of the find might tend to let us forget. However,
the managment of the list is the responsibility of Ed Looney and whatever it
takes to make this gentleman's job easier is fine with me.
