Hello;
We, over here at the TYLER mailing list are batting around something
I thought would be answered by now.
It is the ancestry and descendancy of the 10th President, John
TYLER, his two wives and his many children (15) by these two wives. Sandra
has accessed the online information for the president to get a small
descendency list of his parents, his siblings w/ spouses and his children w/
spouses.
What we are all looking for is entire descendant lists down to the
present day. Several of our TYLER seekers have told of information on books
that give more data and one person over at the BRANHAM [In my lines a
BRANHAM m. a TYLER] even said that they thought they knew of a book by Lyon
Gardiner TYLER, 13th child of President TYLER, that did that pretty well
into the 20th century & was the family historian. Lyon Gardiner TYLER did
not die until 1935, so it would have been pretty extensive.
Curiously, several of us over here at the TYLER mailing list, grew
up with the same words, ringing in our ears, yes child, you are descended
from President John TYLER. So far, for me, reality is that I am not.
Did have one fellow send me a real good genealogy of President TYLER
starting way back in his family tree, from Henry, father of Henry, father of
John(1), father of John(2), father of John(3), father of John(4) the
President, but several E-mail mishaps have erased that information. My
brackets are there to try to keep track.
So, if anyone out there can help us, please let me know.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE TELL ME IF I CAN POST YOUR INFORMATION TO THE
TYLER LIST AND IF I CAN, PLEASE TELL ME IF I CAN USE YOUR NAME AS A REFERENCE!!!

Searching for the family of William CHILDS. William left Kidderminister,
Worces., England in the early 1840's, for the United States. He left his
parents: William and Ann EVANS CHILDS, four sisters: Mary, Susannah,
Emma, Caroline, and one brother, John.
I hope some one out there has heard of this family.
<childs-shippey(a)juno.com>
the first CHILDERS families came to Henrico Co Va on the Bermuda Hundred on
the James river. There was an Abraham - Philemon - Wiliam - Phillip and
probably others. They are very hard to separate as the naming pattern of
children was repeated in almost EVERY family. Abraham had a cousin named
Philemon ....all in Henrico Co Va 1640 and spread over all of the states.
If you will send me your snail mail address I will send you a copy of the
Childress Chatter - a research newsletter which I published for 17 years but
am now having to give it up due to health reasons. There are others who are
taking up this venture and keeping the research going. I have all back
issues for the 17 years in publication - which were published quarterly each
year and have a wealth of information in them. I have sent all my research
material on the the person who is keeping this alive. I can give you her
address for a current subscription which I believe to be about $15.00 per
year.
PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO CONNECT this family with CHILES or CHILDS....they do not
jell.
NO NO NO NO CHILDS/CHILES is NOT a variant spelling of the
CHILDERS/CHILDRESS/CHILDRES/CHILDEARS/CHULDRES surname.
Please get this fixed in your mind ----- CHILDS/CHILDES has nothing to do
with the CHILDERS/CHILDRESS names listed above.
I have researched this CHILDRESS/CHILDERS surname for since 1969 and have
NEVER saw it in relation to the spellings you mention.
I don't know who keeps trying to connect these two families together, but
they are WRONG.
The naming patters for the CHILDES/CHILDS children have NEVER flowed
together. Are you looking for CHILDRESS/CHILDERS or CHILES/CHILDS?
Ted LaRue wrote:
>
> Is the Chiles surname a variant of Childers? Is this the right list for Chiles?
A very good question <g>. So far as I am concerned, Chiles is a variant
of Childs/Child. However Child and Childs are treated as variants of
Childers/Childress on this list. My personal suspicion is that Childs
and Childers are parallel (but probably independent) developments from
the same root. Does anyone have evidence of overlap - ie that they have
in fact been used as variants in the same family?
Given that there is not too much traffic on this list, I am quite
content to accept the fact that I have no interest in the
Childers/Childress messages. Childers and Childress are very rare names
here in the UK - there are none currently listed in the telephone
directories for south and mid-Lincolnshire, just two Childerhouse. On
the other hand, there are 14 Child and 41 Childs subscribers in the same
area - and we are even more plentiful further south!

Just joined your group and I like what I see in the welcome message.
Me, I am heavy into surnames and this could be a welcome respite.
As I was reading the welcome message, I was thinking of what my Dad
told me, long ago, when I asked him what our ethnic background was.
He rattled it off, very quickly, so as not to miss one,
"SCOTCH-IRISH, ENGLISH, DUTCH, WELSH, GERMAN. From my Mom, I got ENGLISH &
PORTUGUESE. After I began to do genealogy, I was very proud to tell my Dad
that I had also added FRENCH.
Now, when he gave me the information that catapulted me into
collecting family tree data, he also told me that his father was born in
Albemarle County, Virginia, near Boyd's Tavern. As Virginia is full of
SCOTCH-IRISH, I am making a leap into thinking I might be able to find out
more about this place.
Boyd's Tavern, Albemarle County, Virginia.
Exactly where was it?
Was it a meeting house in 1700's & 1800's?
Was it also a hotel-type establishment?
When was it established?
Is there any old or new written data on this place?
Is it possible there might be a photo or a drawing of it?
Does it still exist?
Did National Geographic ever do a spread on it? <G>
Would like to add some or all of the answers to my data-base for
more color than just names, dates & places.
Am forwarding a copy of these questions in hopes that I can come up
with some answers. All the mailing lists that receive a copy of this message
may want the answer to these questions, as all those surnames are linked, in
my records, to that location.

In 1790 MITCHELL CHILDRESS, SR. sold 95 acres in Wilkes Co, NC and shortly thereafter he moved to Greene Co, TN. After a year in TN he moved to Knox CO, TN where he applied for a RW pension in 1833 and died in 1844. He lived in the Knob Creek area of Knox CO, TN. MITCHELL AND RACHEL HENDRICKS CHILDRESS, SR.'s son, John K. Childress, b. Nov 1815 in Knox Co, TN, moved to Jackson Co, AL sometime in the 1830s and married Rutha Brown Burgess in 1840 in Jackson Co, AL where JOHN K. CHILDRESS remained until his death in Nov 1897.

Oops. I guess a listowner *can* make a mistake. Darn! And, here I
tho't we were invincible.
Not to worry. The very cryptic entry I mailed is my attempt to gain
the knowledge I need to obtain archives. Once I get it sorted out,
I'll let you know the exact procedure.
Until then, enjoy our new incarnation at RootsWeb.
You folx on the Roberts List, Harold Helm is the List Owner. I'm
just his standby should he not be available.

Yesterday, 3 JUN, I sent the following request and got immediate answers.
Have sent him a message but have not heard back yet.
More on that later.....see below...................
___________________________________________________________________________
Seeking James M. FARMER who sent me a CHILDRESS genealogy in 1976
from Minot AFB in North Carolina.
Seems to me I saw his name, somewhere on WWW & I have only been on
since 22 NOV 1996.
Still do not find a connection between his Benjamin CHILDRESS &
mine, but have just received E-mail from someone whom I believe does connect.
James, if that was your name I saw on WWW, I would be very surprised
if you were not subscribed to this list.
It would be so great to connect the two of you...................
--------------------------------end of message----------------------------
Because of so many messages to listowners & just plain everyday
living, I do not remember if I posted my CHILDRESS line yet. If I have,
please forgive.
