Hey Folks,
I've been watching this list for quite a while now and have not seen
anyone working on my variation of the name....Childree....we have
occurrences of Childers in my line, but they are usually misspellings.
Is anyone here working on, or have knowledge of anyone else working on
this variation of the name?

Hello CHILDERS cousins:
I am forwarding this for a researcher who is not on the list. She is looking
for a Childers line in OK. Since this is not my line, please address replies to
Helene Pockrus at:

Someday I'll get organized enough to post my own CHILDERS lines :-)

Hello Fellow Childers Researchers,
I've watched this group for months now hoping to find some help with my
line :-( and decided it was time for me to share what I have and see if
someone else might have seen this line in their travels. (The subscript
numbers are my reference notes, which I will share with anyone interested
in these Childers)
I haven't been able to find any additional information on James B. Childers
or connect him to his parents yet; any help would be greatly appreciated.

....................................................................
HISTORY OF TIPPAH COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI
(extracted from story written by Billy N. Owen about James L. Childers.)
"James Childers and his descendants were known for their fine horses. He
was a farmer of substantial holdings. He owned over 1100 acres in 1850
and had 8 slaves. At the outbreak of the Civil War, James joined the
Confederate Army as a cavalryman in the 1st MS Partisan Rangers under
Col. W.C. Falkner. Military records show that on 9/12/1862, a skirmish
was fought in Paden, MS. The 2nd Iowa Cavalry about 1000 strong
attacked the 1st MS. Madison W. Smith was mortally wounded. His body
fell onto the road. James Childers refused to leave his friend's body
and rode back to Smith. Childers was wounded in the process. He called
for his wife and word was sent to her that her husband had been
seriously wounded. Companions reported that he kept repeating, "Annie
will come." Annie set out along on horseback to tend her wounded
husband, but arrived to learn that he had died only hours before she got
to Paden. James and his friend, Smith, were buried at the battlesite.
Their remains were transferred to Ripley in 1977. James Childers is now
buried at Jacob's Chapel Cem. where he lies beside his wife who died
8/14/1904.
James eldest son, Stephen Harrison, was 17 when his father was killed.
Steve joined the Confederate army after his father's death. His
fighting was mostly in skirmishes in and around VA. After the
Confederate surrender that ended the war, Steve and a friend, barefoot
and hungry, walked from VA to their home in Ripley.
A few months after he returned home, Steve married Linnie Griffin, dau.
of Larkin Griffin, the neighboring landowner. The marriage took place
on 1/1/1867. They built a house about 100 years east of what was to be
Buena Vista school. He continued his father's farming interests and
also owned and operated an early steam powered cotton gin. Although he
was a Baptist, he donated the land in 1887 on which was built Jacob's
Chapel Methodist Church, because his wife and her family were
Methodists. Larkin Griffin, Steve's father-in-law, donated the land for
the adjoining cemetery."
(My husband's line comes on down through this line. Stephen and Linnie
had 9 children. One was Mary Etta Childers who married John
D.Wammack/Womack.)

Just click on the census.
There are an increasing number of Childers on the census for each of the
three I have posted. I am still working on making the documents display
as they should, but decided I would put the documents on line while I
was working on them for the benefit of those who would rather do the
research now rather than wait several weeks or months before I get the
displays worked out. These census were originally transcribed by David
May and donated by him for your on line use. Unfortunantly, the
conversion of Word Perfect to text destroys a bit the page formatting
and causes column alignment problems. We will get that fixed over the
next few weeks.

Hi, Ken!
The book, Genealogy of the Child, Childs, Childe Families of the Past &
Present in the United State & the Canadas, from 1630 to 1881, was written by
Elias Child, has been published or possibly republished by:
Higginson Book Company
in paperback form January 1989: ISBN: 0832803979
in hardcover January 1989 ISBN: 0832803960
and by Burnett Microfiche Company
in hardcover March 1986 ISBN: 0916497674
Barnes and Noble Booksellers shows a hefty pricetag of $128 for the
paperback, $136 for the hardback, and the Burnett published hardback sells
for a whopping $400.
I understand that some larger libraries have copies of the book, but the
Denver Public Library doesn't....wish they did!
Hope this helps!

Would some kind soul who has access to the book Genealogy of the Child,
Childs, Childe Families of the Past & Present in the United State & the
Canadas, from 1630 to 1881 please look to see if there is a listing for
Harriet CHILDS (born 11 Dec 1798)? This woman is my 3rd great grandmother,
and I have no parents, siblings and ancestry for her.
Your kindness would be greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Judy Crain (Goddess813(a)aol.com)
Thanks again to your quiet cousin, Louise Gaskill, these Current
Childers
Obits have been extracted from files previously locked away in the
closed
Taulbee Research Pages. Louise and a couple of
other cousins are extracting these files so they may be freely shared.
We have placed a copyright on these extracted files, but you will in
violation only if they appear in a work which is sold. Otherwise, you
are free to use them in any way. The entire file is found on the Taulbee
Pages of my URL below. So far, they have extractd A - L, with the
remainder to be posted soon. Another Cousin, Carole Bays, is overseeing
the collecting of obituaries so the files can be kept current. It will
be only a few years before documents such as these become important to
the next generation of genealogists. So enjoy.
There are numerous Childers among the relatives of the other surnames.
No
one will ever have the time to produce an all name index, but your
<find> function on your browser or word processor will find what you are
looking for. All files are plain text.

I have concentrated for 39 years on finding the descendants of my common
ancester, have found 2000 of us. Recently have tried working backward from
that common ancester and have been stalled to a dead standstill. Hoping
someone can help me. I dont know how extensive a post can be on this list,
so will make this kind of short until I hear differently.
Starting with me:
Walter Jack Childers 1944 Kathleen Langdon
Lloyd Franklin Childers 1918 Susie Steele
James Franklin Childers 1866 Julie Myers..Mary Jane Spruell..Matilda Jane
Gasway
Alford Maloy Childers 1837 Lucinda Elvira Osborne
L.C, Childers 1816 Emily Herrington
L.C. Childers and Emily Herrington were born in Ireland, came to US and
settled in North Carolina. Their son, Alford Maloy Childers, was born in
Lincoln County in NC. Family lore says he came from a family of many
siblings (around 14 of them) who left their plantation after the Civil War,
went to either Kentucky or Tennesee, split up from there and each brother
went in different directions. My ancestor went to Clarksville, Texas area.
I would love to find family information on Alford Maloy Childers from the
Lincoln County, NC area, or even information on his parents L.C and Emily.
Am disabled and cannot travel to NC to look myself and too poor to hire
someone. Hopefully someone reading this will contact me with all the magic
information to make me less gray headed.
Could anyone lend any help with:
John Wesley CHILDERS b: Jan 9 1842 Grayson Co., Va
md: abt 1863 to Lyddia "Elida" BARTLEY b: 1847 Russell Co., Va
d: 1898 Pike Co., Ky
thank you so much

I am looking for a family for my FRANCES CHILDERS. She married Thomas
McDuffie in Cherokee co., AL in 1850. I cannot place her with a family.
These are the other CHILDERS who lived in the county at the same time.
Does anyone recognize these CHILDERS??
1850 Cherokee Co., AL:
38-38 Green V. Childers 33 AL
Elizabeth 30 SC
Paralee 10 AL
Albury 8 AL
Nancy 6 AL
George 5 AL
John 4 AL
Robert 3 AL
1174 Nancy Childers 50 GA
Wm. 20 GA
Probable Children of Nancy Childers:
1. Greenville (Green V.) Childers b. 1815/20 m. Elizabeth
Melton 27 Sep 1836 in Perry Co., AL. [John Carren Childers
b. 26 Nov 1846 Gadsden Cher. Co., AL son of Greenville
Childers and Elizabeth Melton.]
2. Gilford B. Childers m. Margaret Addie Melton 17 Apr 1844
in Perry Co., AL.
3. Sarah Childers m. Frederick Walter or Watters,
4. William b. 1825 m. Mary Elizabeth Fitzpatrick.
These went on to Cleveland Co., Ark.
A few blocks from my home in Oklahoma City is a tiny cemetary where I found
the grave of Hiram Childers. This cemetary is a recognized cemetary for
veterans, is called Union Soldier's Cemetary. It holds 63 graves dating from
the Indian Wars. The stone for Hiram Childers says....."Hiram
Childers,,,CO.E,,,12 ILL.INF." No dates, just those three lines. I put
wreaths on the grave even though I don't know if he is a relative. It seems
that someone should decorate the grave of a Childers buried so far from his
home in Illinois. If Hiram is from your family, e mail me and I will get
with you for whatever. JChild8629@aol.
I am seeking information on the parents and siblings of Martha Childress.
She married William Marion Roddy, Sr., 15 January 1822 in Catoosa Co, GA.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
