Hello!
I am also trying to find info on my Child ancestor (Rachel W. Child born June 20, 1794 Bristol, Maine who married Samuel Nickels on May 30, 1816 in Bristol; don't know who her parents were). I am doing a Nickels/Nichols genealogy. I do have Ambrose Child born about 1819, died 1862 in Bristol, who married in Bristol on July 30, 1844 to Hester Maria Nickels, daughter of William Nickels, Jr. and Nancy H. McKown. I have posted this info on rootsweb.com with references. Do you think that my Rachel had a brother who might have had a son that was Ambrose? I have had no luck with finding our Child family in Maine. I know Ambrose was a sea Captain, but I don't have any other info on him. The children I have for Ambrose are: George who died at age 21; Alexander M., born about 1846 in Bristol, died 1862 at sea, buried Old Fort Cemetery, Pemaquid, Lincoln Co., Maine; and Capt. Arthur C. Child, born Apr. 11, 1848 in Bristol, died Oct. 20, 1924 in Alton, Belknap Co., NH, married (int.) M!
ay 1, 1868 to (1) Georgianna Glidden, and (2) Julia W. McDougal. He had 3 children by his first wife. I hope this info is helpful to you. If you ever find out who Ambrose's parents are, please let me know. This might be another clue as to who my Rachel's parents were. Sincerely, Barbara Estabrook barbara54(a)juno.com
