There appear to be at least 4 genetically unrelated Child lineages across the world according to the DNA results shown here:
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/childs/results
I would highly encourage other Child/Childs/Chiles researchers to contribute to the DNA chart.

Dear Mr. Child,
Thank you very much for your reply and your suggestions. Will keep them in mind.
My family also worked in the woolen mills and were stonemasons. They may have been from Yorkshire or Bristol.
Thanks again,
Betty Price

Hi,
Although I don't know about your particular Child line your post caught my eye because I am descended from a long line of Child carpenters (a couple of which were named John but that's nothing unusual!)
My Child line were from Dorset and London and I know that I am related to some Child(s) in the east coast of the US so it's possible that there is a connection.
If no one has the answer for you I would highly recommend doing a Y-DNA test. You will be able to find which line of Child(s) you came from. I think there are about 4 genetically different lines.
If you need any advise or would like to know more about my tree please email me and I would be happy to share my tree.
Good luck,
Philip Child

Are there relatives still out there?
Thanks for any help!
