Looking for any information on a Maine ship captain, Ambrose Child (or Childs), born about 1818. In 1850 he was living in Bristol, Maine. He married a Maria (possibly Nickels?) in 1844. He died at sea, sometime between 1861 and 1863 and is buried near Fort William Henry, in Bristol, Maine. He had three sons, Alexaner, Arthur and William. I have no information on who his parents were. Thanks for any information.

This may help you, but it does go back farther than you had. Take a look at this site http://members.tripod.com/~ntgen/bw/child_engl.html
About half way down are Hertfordshire people. Please let me know by email jbchilds(a)adelphia.net.
Thank you.
Bill.

I wonder if anyone can help with any information about my husband's great grandmother Mary Ann Child. Her parents were Charles Child born London 1815 and Mary Ann Whitby born London 1825. They had a son Charles born in England in 1847 and Charles was back in London by the time of the 1861 UK census. But their daughter Mary Ann Child was born in Burlington Highway in 1850. We would love to know why they were in Iowa, what happened to Mary senior and why Charles and Mary junior returned to the UK. Was anything of note happening in Burlington in the early 1850's? Any local knowledge would be of interest.

The following people were buried in the MASSEY family cemetery at what is today Ft. Benning, GA. The cemetery is located on Malones Range #22. When Fort Benning was created, it enveloped many cemeteries (57 in number) of Chattahoochee and Muscogee Counties.
If the cemeteries are located in restricted areas, the first step is to make a phone call to the Range Division. Then, that office checks the calendar to see when the area will be free and clear from military exercises.
Range Division, Directorate of Training at (706) 545-3474
At that point, a person from the Range Division will call you and set up a time and meeting place and the Contact will go with you to visit the cemetery.
Don't just show up at the office, planning to go see the cemetery without advance scheduling. Visits MUST be cleared with the proper authorities first and put on the calendar.
