Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

In the church record in London, it says John and Isabella CHILD daughter Elizabeth ALSO her sister Eleanor with the same parents , says CHILD. In the church record of their GREATgrandaughter in Brompton, Kent, England, their child has a middle name of CHILDE!

I think it is because of the way the 'd' was written in the registers. An educated writer tended to add a loop to the bottom of the 'd' some were done in such a way that it almost looked like an 's'. since many could not read documents, people would be unaware what people thought their name was. This was certainly the case with my Child ancestors who got quite upset if an 's' was added because they KNEW although it was spelt CHILDS they were CHILD!

I have an ever growing set of CHILD families but one thing is getting me confused!
Why do some have an S or an E at the end of the name?
Several trees I have seen seem to switch to and fro!
I am looking for all and any Henry William CHILD... s. One whohad a daughetr born in 1891 with a very unusual forename followed by Helen and Yvonne! Try as I may I havent been able to isolate him!

While searching for Henry William CHILD born c 1860 who had a daughter - with an unusual name - in 1891 I found William Henry CHILD whose father George John CHILD was a seedsman, married and had a son and then seems to have deserted his family and gone to Yorkshire. A similarly named CHILD then crops up in Canada /USA.
I have more data if anyone is interested but my main interest is Henry William. They do seem to be related as my Cuz is th grandaughter of one and the niece of the other! Quite how, we are not certain.

Researching the family of Stephen L. Billings b. abt. 1816, Bradford, VT. His parents were Stephen Billings and Keziah/Kaziah/Casiah/Kesia CHILD. He was a farmer and they resided in Sharon, Windsor County, VT where Stephen died in 1821. Stephen(Sr.)' s probate records(of Royalton, VT) lists their minor children Adaline, Caroline, Julia, and Stephen. Would appreciate any information on the family of Keziah CHILD.
