In trying to track our CHILD family back I had gotten this death certificate by mistake . It is for a Herbert CHILD aged 31, died 06 Sept. 1873, grocer of King Street Twickenham. I have a pencilled in note that the Alfred Child present at the death (doesn't state relationship) was born in Essex @1841.
This isn't my family as they had come into London via Buckinghamshire. If this is definitely you family I would be pleased to send you this certificate. Reply to my email address.

I know your original query was a very long time ago (Jul 2002) but my 3x gr grandfather Alfred was a grocer in Twickenham. I have a pencilled note that he had a brother Herbert born in Dagenham, Essex in 1844. Is this who you were looking for? Did you get anywhere with your query at the time?

I suspect we are cousins of the CHILD family of Heddington Wiltshire. There was a Clothier called Roger or Robert in Heddington in 1642 when he christen his son Francis CHILD, who became Lord Mayor of London and Founded the CHILDS bank. Does anyone have any CHILD family around here? I need one of them to move to HURSTBOURNE TARRANT in Hampshire by 1626 when Thomas CHILD was born (my ancestor) Anyone else with anything from around these areas?

Thank you for your reply. My Elizabeth Child was christened at Saint Marys SOHO in Westminster in 1782 to John and Isabella Child. Elizabeth married a James Gilbert. I find in two different times? May 26, 1804 at Saint Saviour, Southwark and in 1806 Saint George, Hanover Square, Westminster. Both have the same father listed--John Child? Elizabeth's death cert. says she was born at Soho and her age is right for that christening.

I have a Martha Child b. 1822 St Saviours, Southwark Surrey, daughter of Francis CHILD born 1790, St Saviours.
The fact he named his daughter Martha may suggest a realtionship to your Banking CHILD family but Francis was a Solicitor in 1851.
See 1851 Census
