My GreatGreat Grandmother was Elizabeth Child . She married James Gilbert a surgeon. Their son James ,a surgeon had two sons who came to the U.S. in 1886 and attended Tulane Medical School in New Orleans. I have wondered why?
Elizabeth Child Gilbert was the daughter of John and Isabella Child. She was born in London 1880 or 81. Also her daughter Eleanor Dulvey named her daughter Eleanor Childe Dulvey. Maybe your Child family is why these two sons went to New Orleans???

Hi you don't say which area your "Child family" is from. Mine is from Buckinghamshire. Any connection there?

I've recently been working on my Child ancestry, and most of what I've found "online" agrees up to the point of the parents of John Child. I've seen two theories as to who his parents were: Father: William Child, Mother: Unknown
and Father: Joshua Child, Mother: Mary Sadler.
Would someone who is familiar with this mind posting the sources used for each guess as to who the correct parents are? It would be a great help...
Thanks!

Alan,
thanks for your message. I'll have a look inot this but I don't think there is a connection with my family. Child is a surprisingly common name . But thank you for taking trouble to reply to my message. i will get in touch if I find anything

Hi Nick,
Whilst posting my query re Child families I noticed your message. I am researching my wife's family name of Kitchen. We know that her paternal grandfather, who lived in a village near to Barnsley, Yorkshire, married (well...lived with!) a Rose Child who is listed on the 1901 census as being born in Bermondsey (maybe Lambeth). Searching the BMD gives the only Child family in that area (of which there are many - as you say) with a Rose or Rosa Child is one who lived in Stockwell Green, Lambeth, Surrey (in 1881) - a George Henry Child, with 2nd wife Christina (formerly Lawson) and children:
George D./Charles J/ Walter H/ Emma L.C./ Rose(a) M/ Edwin A/ and Maud M. Lawson from Christina's first marriage. I checked with the transcriber of the piece and she readily agrees that the stated name of Rosa would be Rose. My search is for a) The name of George's first wife and mother of Rose and b) Any connection with others doing similar research to link up etc.... The family were in the hosiery trade.
If there is a link with yourself....well..there is fairly sizeable tree available but with only one Child on it.
look forward to hearing from you.
