I would be very interested in any information you may receive as I am a direct descendant of Marshall Child. My brother is William Marshall Child.
There is a bank called Child & Co, Bankers of London formed by Robert
Blanchard and Francis Child, a son of a Wiltshire clothier. Francis Child
orginally was a a London goldsmith. The partnership was formed soon after
1664. Francis Child had three sons, Robert, Francis and Samuel, bt no
daughters.
Robert Child married Elizabeth Wheeler whose parents were William Wheeler
and Martha Blanchard. When Robert Blanchard died Francis Child went on to
form partnerships, Child & Rodgers and later Child & Jackson.
The legacy of Francis Child is Osterley Park which is open to the public.
Francis Child never lived at Osterley Park, he prefered living at a most
residence in Fulham which he inherited from Robert Blanchard.
When the son Robert died in 1782 he was suceeded by his widow Sarah who
remairried a senior partner of the banking firm. Their only daughter Sarah
Anne eloped with the young Earl of Westmorland and the Child fortune passed
over Sarah Anne to Sarah Sophia Blanchard who married the 5th Earl of
Jersey, George Villiers.
I hope this may be of some use.
Kind regards
Peter R. Child
