I am trying to find info on William CHILD b. 1768 in Waltham, MA.
Elias Child in his Child Genealogy says that in 1771 he "moved to Maine with the family of Mr. David Marshall of Massachusetts and settled in what was then called Sudbury, Canada, now Bethel, Maine. Attacked by the Indians, the inhabitants fled. The family relocated in Minot, Maine. There Mr. Child married, then moved to Livermore, Maine, where he settled on a farm."
I found him in a number of towns, but no info on Bethel. I even found Mrs. Marshall's account of fleeing the Indians, but with not mention of a "ward" William.
Can anyone give me more info on this situation? Why would a three-year-old be sent to Maine with another family. By process of elimination (siblings birthdates/marriage dates) it seems that William was back home in MA at the time of the 1790 census.
Thanks for any help!
Micki
