Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Sorry, I do not think I can assist you as the lady in question is from the
States, do you know if she emigrated to America or was born there. If she
emigrated you are more likely to trace her through New England, such as
Massachusetts where most of the early imigrant from England arrived. I
would suggest tracing the name from there as the period you are talking
about would have involved the earliest settlers. If there are any Child
names listed you can trace forward from there and then trace their origins
back to their mother land.
My family come from Hertfordshire in England, but the name is said to
orginate from France ' Le Child' which is the son or heir. The Child name
varies, Childe, Childes, Childs. It is not uncommon to find the last
letters being dropped and my curse is that no matter how many times I write
my name on letters or documents the replies alway come back spelling my
name Childs.
