Please excuse me if I'm appearing a little thick but I don't see how your post pertains to the CHILCOTE, or variant, surname.

Clan Donnachaidh is sponsoring a YDNA project through FTDNA. There are some McC's spelled variously who have been tested. A MALE descendant of the US Ligonier line of David (b.ca 1725 No Ireland, d. 1814, m. Jane Platt) McConnaughey has recently been tested with the 1st 12 markers in and posted with the balance of the 67 markers finishing testing and post by March 23 2011.
A female McConnaughay whom I believe was Patricia McConnaughay Gregory, founder of the McConnaughey Society of America, now defunct because of her death, also tested; however because she was female her Mt DNA being mitochondrial has no bearing on the YDNA of her McConnaughay father.
For any on the list who knew Pat or her McConnaughay MALE relatives, I'm looking to get in touch. All of Pat's genealogical life she worked to tie her McConnaughay's to the Ligonier line and that of her co-collaborator Samuel Chalmers McConahey, who passed before her. Their combined efforts totaling over 70 years worth of leg work independently through standard genealogy, the McConnaughey Society, etc. weren't able to do that. Unfortunately he MtDNA could not show the McC Y information necessary to allow comparison with other McC testees.
We now have YDNA, and it is fascinating. Previously unknown familial ties among the families can now be inexpensively determined or proven not. YDNA is sex linked father to son only, thus the testee must be a male McC with a male McC father. It shows no information other than lineage relationships -- nothing which could be considered for medical interest what so ever.
I recommend the 67 marker test which will show the most recent as well as the ancient lineage relationships. Through Clan Donnachaidh, participants get a discount. There is no need for multiple members of any one family or McC line related group to submit samples. 1 participant is enough.
Some groups will ask for a McC line Male volunteer and share the cost among 2 or more related interested parties making the kit and testing very inexpensive -- less than the cost to go out to dinner.
If you have questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. The Duncan administrator for Clan Donnachaidh who the Ligonier line participant went through is Tim Duncan
BTW the test involves a cheek mouth swab -- no blood.
I am in sincere hopes that there are multiple McC lines represented in this mailing list and that there will be interest in this project.
Thank you and sincerely, Susan
