Decatur Herald, Decatur IL, 26 Oct 1900, pg. 6
Mrs. Marle Chilcote died of apoplexy Wednesday afternoon October 24, at her home at 562 North Monroe street. The deceased had for several days been feeling a little under the weather but had not been seriously ill and had attended to her household duties as usual. She was about the house Wednesday the greater part of the forenoon when she laid down on a cot to rest for a short time. Soon after her little grandson found her in convulsions and ran to call some of the neighbors. Dr. W. C. Bowers was called but the woman was then unconscious and could not be revived. She died about 2 o'clock. Dr. Bowers said that her death was due to apoplexy.
Mary E. Palmer was a native of Ohio, where she was born May 31, 1842. She had lived in Decatur for about 40 years. She was a member of the Adventist church and the services will be conducted by Rev. Shrader of that faith. The hour of the funeral has not yet been fixed but will probably be on Friday some time. The deceased is survived by four children; Mrs. W. R. Waltor, living north of Decatur; Mrs. H. L. Archer and Miss Laura Chilcote of Decatur, and Mrs. Ella Bromley, of Boody.
