My cousin Freda McConnaughey recently posted pictures on Facebook of George S and his wife as young people and a picture of his father taken when he was 35-40 years old (my estimate). I will get the pictures to you asap. I am traveling now, so give me a couple of days. Can you scan the picture from my Grandmother and post it? To whom was it addressed? 1963 is the year my Grandpa, Louis, died.
I'll be in touch.

Hello Gregory --
Have you heard of any more family photos? I would certainly like to get a copy of the photo you described of George Samuel Chilcote and a brother, hunting. George is the only one of the siblings I don't have a photo of. I don't know if you are able to download the photos from Ancestry.com, but I would be happy to email you any of the Chilcote photos you would like if you can't.
Incidentally, while rummaging through my Chilcote file I found a letter from your grandmother, Grace, dated 1963.

Hi Jody,
Are you certain as to your dates? I ask because if your mom was his daughter he was only 9 when she was born - not likely.
First thing I would do is get a copy of his death certificate and your mother's. These should give you more information such as birthplace and date. From there you can begin to work backwards. In genealogy you always start with what you know and work back but be certain to verify everything with original documents or copies. If you can find where he was born you can go to the 1930 census and find his parents. The 1940 won't be out until 2012. Hope this helps, good luck with your search and keep looking at sites such as Rootsweb for help.
Mary

Hi there. My grandfather was born in Baltimore but that is about all I know. He passed away last year and I am just starting to look into family history. His birthday was June 9th...I think, and he was 72 when he died. I wish he and I would have been closer and I knew more. His name was Carmen Henry Chilcote and they called him "Buddy" as a kid. My Mom's name Carma Lyn Chilcote 1947-2002
Please let me know if this helps!
Thank you and good luck!
Jody

My tree info is rather incomplete, having been mostly gleaned from folks on line and from my Uncle, Aunt and Grandma, before she passed. I did recently visit Tecumseh MO where David and Family lived in the 1850's. It is a a beautiful piney wood area along the banks of the clear running Norfork River. At the time the Chilcote's lived there it was likely a hotbead of Confederate activity, being only a couple of miles from Arkansas. This may explain the family's move to northern Missouri and David's subsequent enlistment as a Sergeant in the Cass County Home Guard Cavalry (a UNION unit). Missouri was the scene of many, bloody, murderous guerilla actions between Union and Confederate sympathizers during the Civil War (refer to the movie' The Outlaw Josey Wales).
As an aside, a few years back the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) erected a memorial marker in Missouri to John Chilcoat honoring his Rev War Service. He died in Missouri in 1851. John was the eldest son of Robinson Chilcote (who reportedly died in a Britsh POW camp in NC in 1781) and the brother of OUR ancestor Robinson L. Chilcote. I will be in KC this spring and intend to visit John and David's gravesite. Their is a discrepancy in David's middle name; some say G. others C.. I will endeavor to read it off the headstone. By the by, Olin Karch has posted a picture of David in this community, along with many other Chilcote's from the era...maybe even your Nancy Chilcote!

David would be my 2nd great granduncle; his father, Samuel Robinson Chilcote is my 3rd great grandfather. Robinson L. is my 4th great grandfather. There is also a connection to the Gregg family who was the wife of David C/G on my maternal side. Samuel's son, John, is married to Nancy Ann Gregg so I have direct lineage to the Greggs.

Good Morning Barbara,
I too am a descendent on my maternal side, my ggrandmother was Nancy Chilcote Guffey, wife of Enoch Guffey and daughter of Samuel and Nancy Thorpe Chilcote. I have yet to prove the death of Robinson but am working on it too. I would love to hear from you and compare notes.

Good Morning,
I am the ggranddaughter of Enoch Guffey and Nancy (Chilcote) Guffey. Nancy was the youngest sister of David C. Chilcote, she was the 10th child. I would be very interested in comparing notes on our tree, can't believe you live in Orange as I used to live in Yorba Linda! Please reply to me at my private e-mail adddress.

Would it be possible for me to receive an 'invite' to your family tree also as I am a Chilcote descendent on my maternal side. I have a few photos but would like to locate more of my ancestors if possible.
Also, I'm still trying to prove Robison L is a son of Robinson Chilcote who purportedly died of swamp fever in a British prison in NC. If you have any more information on either one, I would certainly appreciate hearing from you.

My great grandparents were Enoch Guffey and Nancy Thorpe. If my records
are correct, David C. is Nancy's older brother. I would love to hear
from you.

Having just now gone through my 50-some year accumulation of Chilcote correspondence I find that the letter G appeared only in compilations in personal letters, with one exception. One published transcript of gravestones lists David G Chilcote, while another transcript of the same cemetery lists David C Chilcote. Having been to the cemetery myself, I could not say as the stone was heavily encrusted in lichens and I could not read the initial at all. His Kansas Affidavit of Death lists David C Chilcote, as do affidavits by Ara Gregg and Charles Green Gregg. A signed (court transcript) deed from David and Abigail Chilcote for property sold to Cyrus Harris in 1884 lists him as David C Chilcote, and is signed as David C Chilcote.
I am making David C Chilcote the official name in my records now.

Now that I have been using the "G" in David Chilcote's name for years, I wonder if anyone has any documentation of what his middle name is, or even that initial is. All the documents I can find list him as "David C. Chilcote" if they use an initial at all.
