I found a CD online from PA.genealogy.net that I purchased recently and found the following information on Robinson which I will be submitting to the DAR for acknowledgement of his being a patriot. The registrar for the Des Moines, IA, chapter has looked at the information and thinks it is correct information that was found in a book entitled "Commemorative Biographical Encyclopedia of the Juniata Valley" that was published in 1897. In it, the following is found under B. F. Chilcoat on p. 333: "The first named, Robinson Chilcoat, was the great-grandfather of Mr. B. F. Chilcoat. He removed with his family from Maryland to Huntingdon county, PA., and had their home near Shirleysburg. About the beginning of the Revolution, the Indians in that vicinity became so troublesome that Robinson Chilcoat was obliged to see his farm, and removed to North Carolina. In the earlier stage of the difficulty between the colonies and the mother country, Mr. Chilcoat sympathized with England; bu!
t later, becoming thoroughly convinced of the righteousness of the American cause, he gave his life for it. He became one of the 'rebels', joining the Continental army; was captured by the British, and died while a prisoner, of camp fever." It goes on to list his sons (no daughters) and everything ties into what I have found to be true. If the DAR accepts this as proof with all the other supporting data I have found, I will be very happy to say that this is my ancestor. The DAR Registrar is going to help me find some more information later this month so maybe that will turn up more information on Robinson; she has access to DAR materials about other Chilcoat/Chilcotes that I don't have which might be useful.
Anyway, now all that is left to find is who he was married to, if they actually ever were officially married, but I will keep looking. I have not gotten through all the documents on the CD yet as I'm also looking for other names to fill in some blanks on other branches of my family.
