I also found it in the "Baltimore County Families, 1659-1759", book by Robert W. Barnes in which it states on p. 109 under Chilcott, Robinson "...served in Rev. War in N.C., and d. of swamp fever". Also in the "Descendants of Heathcote Chilcote of Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania" by Robert H. Chilcote book, it states "Robison, born December 8, 1739; believed to have married a Heatcote woman; died during the Revolution. Robinson had moved to Pennsylvania before 1770, but the Indians became troublesome, and he moved from his farm near Shirleysburg to North Carolina at the time of the Revolution. He joined the American Army, was captured by the British, and died of fever while a prisoner."
I have also searched several states for the rosters of Revoluntionary patriots but still have not been able to prove this. One of his sons did go to Rowan Co., NC at one point before moving back to PA so I will do more research there as I get the time. I am a member of the DAR and hope to prove this someday; in the meantime, I will continue to show this as a possibility.
In the "History of Huntingdon County in the State of Pennsylvia from Earliest Times" by Lytle, it states that among the earliest settlers were Chilcotts and Robinsons (which may be where the Robinson name comes from)(p.314) and on p. 316 "Salisbury, known also as Chilcoatstown, was laid out by Benjamin and Robeson Chilcoat previous to 1797". I only received four pages of this book but I want to see if I can get it on interlibrary loan somewhere and do more research on the Chilcotts and Robinsons.

Warren,
I don't think there is anything to the prison camp notation that you posted. I have checked the records in North Carolina and have come up with nothing. That appeared in a county history book. Possibly Van Wert Co., Oh.

That's super that you are working on Robinson Chilcote / Chilcoat !! more power to you!
my information is at
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&db=ildau&id=I488
but I've only worked on robinson's son John, and only his apparent first marriage(s)--as those descendants took a different path (different from 2nd marriage and all the siblings of John) KY to TN to AL to TX with many branches
I have not researched at all RE robinson's death but decided to post the 1781 in British Prison Camp in NC alternative for now, from just comparing the stories compiled on http://wc.rootsweb.com for Robinson
Actually the contact for the above website
genealogy118 (at) FAIRPOINT.net

keep up the good work!

Message Board Post:
Several years ago I found a file on the Chilcotes at the IA Genealogical Society in Des Moines in which there was hand-written and typed correspondence from an Earle H. Brown, dated 1979 and 1981 and living in Clearwater, FL. In this correspondence, he shared information he had found in an unpublished book "The Descendants of Healthcote Chilcote of Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania" written by one of his great-grandson, Robert Harry Chilcote of Huntingdon County,WV, dated 27 Dec 1964, which can be found through the LDS Library in UT. I figured his information had to be fairly accurate as he was closer to the source than I was; I know that doesn't prove anything. In his information, he lists Benjamin as the son of Robinson and thus the brother of Robison L. who married Elizabeth Betsy Wright.
Robinson L's daughter, Permelia "Milly" m Frederick Corrick and had a son, Washington; her daughter, Elizabeth m James McVey, Jr. and had a son named Washington. I haven't researched this line but wonder if it came from it.
>From "Baltimore County Families, 1659-1759", written by Robert W. Barnes, it lists Robinson Chilcott as son of John m Margaret so assume that Margaret's name is just carried down the line.
I'm not sure where I found the Ashland Co., OH death date for Robinson L but it isn't correct as he was still alive on the 1820 Census from Randolph Township, Dearborn Co., IN, that was taken on 26 Jan 1821 according to the census records published on Heritagequest.com. I will go back through all my information and see who this should have been listed under. I apologize for this error.

I'm curious to know where the names of Washington, and Margaret came from?
How do you know that Robinson L. Chilcote died in Ashland Co., Oh in 1820?
How do you know that Benjamin was a brother to Robinson L. Chilcote?
Having working on the Chilcote/Chilcoat genealogy for over 35 years, you ask questions.

My MtDNA testing did not reveal any native American ancestry - my haplogroup is J1a. I can definitly trace my maternal line back to the wife of William Stevens (as shown below), and that is supposed to be one of Robinson L. Chilcote's daughters - Mary or Cynthia. My line starting with my great grandmother, is Loie Victoria Tatman, d/o Jesse Tatman and Barbra Ellen Ankrom, d/o Archibald Ankrom and Mary Stevens, d/o William Stevens and ? Chilcote. There is a picture of Mary Steven's sister, Rachel Arminta Stevens, at http://www.birdsofafeather1.com/surnames/all/narrative/b343.htm#P353 - and a picture of her son. Both look as though they have Native American blood and reportedly did have such ancestry. If they did, however, it must be on the paternal, not maternal side. PS - don't know if you know this, but Elizabeth "Betsy" Wright, wife of Robinson L. Chilcote, is related to Barack Obama. Betsy's father, John Wright had a brother Abraham Wright who is Barack's ances!
tor, on his mother's side. There is a fair amount of information on the internet about Obama's genealogy.

Jemima Chilcote, daughter of Robinson L., married George Corrick on 21 May 1810, in Randolph Co., VA (later became WVa). Her sister, Permelia "Milly" married Frederick Corrick on 10 May 1813, also in Randolph Co., VA. I do not show any Mary as a daughter of Robinson L and I only have one son for Joshua as I haven't done much on his line. The other daughters of Robinson L are Susannah and Margaret; sons are Samuel Robinson and Washington.
In 1800 census,Robinson L, Joshua Sr and Jr,and John Jr are shown in PA, Huntingdon Co., Union Township living next to each other; Richard (an uncle?) also lives in this township. In 1810 in same township, J, J, R, R, A, N (or W) and E are listed (no first names). In 1820 Robinson L. and Benjamin (brother)are shown as living in IN, Dearborn Co., Randolph Township. Robinson L died in 1820 in OH, Ashland co., Hanover, so it was later in the year; I have not found an actual date of death.
What did you find out from your DNA testing? I am interested in finding out as I have been told that my maternal great grandmother had Cherokee Indian blood but I haven't been able to prove it. She was a descendent of Robinson L. so if she did, the Indian blood came from further back than what we might think.

Some of the photos might be of Benscoters or Rays also since the families are inter-related with the Chilcotes. All of the photos were taken by family or photographers from the central IA area as far as we can tell.

I am researching the Chilcote line that includes the above individual. Does anyone have any information about his date of death as I have found 1776 and 1781? He does not show up on the 1790 US Census so he apparently died before then.

According to the Revolutionary War pensions and bounty land warrant records, he only had two wives: 1) Susanna with whom he had John, Joshua, and Anne who married Alexander Wells and 2) Huldah. At the time of John's death, he had no living wife and no wives were named. John and Joshua were awarded the bounty land grant.
If interested, you can go to heritagequest.com through any public library and locate his pension record which is 13 pages long but contains lots of information about his service time and his life in general.
