Good Morning Ron,
At the present time I'll have to answer your questions in the negative.
Basically, they are things I may have worked on 25 yrs. ago. Joanne
tells me we are going to start putting all our Chilcote data into a
family tree maker report this afternoon. It may take several weeks.
Then I can send it out as a GEDCOM file-I think.
Have a good day.
PS: I'm wanting to get out to the Chilcote Cem. soon. Will send report ,
photos etc.
DeAnna,
Please check my message to the Chilcote list, dated 8/7/99, in case you
haven't already. Since then I found more information, but the author is
unknown. It may have been Barton Chilcote of Ohio, who died many years ago,
although I suspect that it was probably written by Catherine Dudley (Taylor)
Klein, who had the bible records I mentioned earlier.
William Alexander Chilcote moved to TN where he operated mills for his father
and Peter Parks (probably a relative of Wm.'s mother, Harriett Parks
Chilcote). Met and married there Catherine Dudley Moore, daughter of Lewis
Moore, a farmer of Russell Co., KY, who owned a farm of 800 acres there. She
had sisters named Cassie and Emma. Catherine was born 4-1-1841.
Moved to Frederick Co., Md. during the outbreak of war between the states.
One of William A. Chilcote's children was named Mary Tennessee Chilcote (b.
1880), from whom Catherine Dudley (nee Taylor) Klein (whom I mentioned in my
earlier message) descended. Catherine's daughter of the same name m. Lt.
John J. Albright, Jr. and had one child, Page Dudley Albright.

I have been trying to send about 5 pgs, as an attachment, discussing the
ancestry of Heathcote Chilcote which includes the Chilcote emmigrants of
the early 17th century in Stocumber parish in England. However, the mail
list discourages attachments and they do not go thru.
If any one is interested I'll send as a bitmap or tif. directly-let me
know.
Ron-I'll scan Bart's letters and send.

Good Morning Ron,
For the 1st. families try: www.linkline.com/personal/xymox
If that does'nt work go to a search engine and type in Americas First
Families. Scroll until you find "America's First Families, 1600s
colonial ancestors genealogical soc. data base. That should take you
there also.
Once on the site click the button which says ancestor roll of honor.
At that page scroll to Resolved Waldron. At that page click the view bar
and it will take you to the bio of "Baron" Resolved Waldron our, by way
of Holland, English Ancestor.
Please let me know if it still does not show up.

Does anyone have access to, or copies from, the following book?
The Descendants of John Shaw
Loudoun County, Virginia, Perry County, Ohio
by Bruce Anderson of Lancaster, OH, 1982, 55 pages
Call No. 929.273
Two of John and Margaret (Claypool) Shaw's daughters, Catharine (b. 1808) and
Margaret, m. Joshua (1812-1889) and Darby (1811-1877), respectively. Were
Joshua and Darby sons of Robinson and Jemima (Chilcote) Chilcote? Is there
anyone out there who could send me copies of those pages that give
information on the Chilcotes? My letter to the author in 1997 was not
answered.
In 1995 there was a Roots Web query from rcwoltz(a)ADPC.PURDUE.EDU of Purdue
University re James Shaw, Jr. (b. 1811), who migrated from VA to OH and m.
Nancy Chilcote (b. 1823; date of death unknown). Are these the same
families? Could Nancy (Chilcote) Shaw have been a daughter of Robinson and
Jemima Chilcote?
Thanks for any assistance.

Bud,
I agree with you that until recent years, it has been difficult to find many
people who have done research into the Chilcote genealogy. Barton Chilcote
did, but he has been dead for some time. I wrote to him when I was detailed
to New York City in 1978, but he didn't offer to share his research and I was
just beginning to do mine.
No, I do not descend from Resolved Waldron, although I am interested in a
Lawrence Waldron who may have been the first husband of Martha ___ who
married Jonas Bowen in MD in the 17th century.
There are several Family Tree Maker Sites on the Internet which have recorded
much Chilcote data, such as the ones by Marge Counterman and Lorie Shaffer.
Another one is by Fred and Janice Scott of Huntingdon Co., PA, although that
one gives names, dates and locations but no other information such as
narrative or sources.
Have you or anyone else on this List ever contacted the Scotts?
Speaking for myself, I prefer to concentrate on one person at a time, and to
write a biographical sketch of that person. Admittedly, that is very
time-consuming and I have not made much progress using that approach. I've
done it for some other surnames - writing detail about the parents in
chronological order (citing sources as I go along), and summarizing each of
the children. That puts it in focus for me - without getting bogged down in
10 generations and thousands of names and dates. When I finish some other
projects, I hope to concentrate on the Chilcotes of Anne Arundel Co., MD in
the 17th century.
Yes, I would appreciate photos of some of the old tombstones if you have some
extras. Also, your idea re FTM program and spitting out trees and reports
sounds like a good idea. Although I have no software myself, I would
certainly be willing to send you copies of any relevant data/documents that I
have for inclusion in your reports.
Thanks very much for the information from the court case where Mary Burge was
indicted in 1833 for striking John Bryan. I saw another case somewhere on
the Internet, but it gave the title and no particulars. Re the Burge
surname, I don't have any knowledge other than what I saw in Grace Adkinson's
material. Not able to do any research for you in MD as I live in CA.
However, I have many books on MD and checked a few. In Rev. Patriots of
Balto. Town and Balto. Co., Md 1775 - 83, it shows that a Joseph Burge was a
ship steward on the Defence, Sept. 19, 1776, as well as from Jan. 11, 1777
through April 21, 1777. In the Appendix to MD Militia, War of 1812, Vol. 2,
there is a listing of men who registered for the Baltimore militia in 1794.
Among those names (men of military age, that is, between ages 18 and 45) were
William Burge (p. 29 of the registration document), George Curan (p. 29),
Robert Curran (131), James, John, Samuel, Thomas and Wm. Cunningham, Daniel
Brian (36), Daniel Bryan (18), William Bryan (60), James Bryon (1), Abednego
and Richard Chilcoat (178), Elisha Chilcoat (131), Christopher Chilcote (whom
I suspect was the son of James Chilcote and Sarah Cole) (66), and William
Chilcote (master to Daniel Cassawer) (66).
In Methodist Records of Balto. City, MD, Vol. 1, 1799-1829, p. 26, is a
record of the marriage solemnized by Rev. Dr. George Roberts, a minister of
the Meth. Episc. Church, Balto. City Station, on 24 Dec. 1807 of William
Burge to Elizabeth Mopps.

To Carey Chilcote and any other interested parties:
The following information may be the evidence you were looking for. It comes
from a booklet titled SOME CHILCOTE, CHILCOTT, CHILCOAT RECORDS
HUNTINGDON, NORTHAMPTON, BUCKS CO., PA.
by Marguerite Silcott Patterson, Elyria [Ohio] Chapter, DAR. Published
possibly in 1972. You can obtain a copy from the Western Reserve Historical
Society Library in Cleveland, OH, although the one they sent me in 1996 was
very light. Most of the pages consist of an index and information on an
unrelated Chilcote line in Bucks Co.

p. 3
John Chilcoat
of H
Died 4 Feb. 1848 [It may have been Barton Chilcote who showed 14 Feb. 1848.]
Age 55
[Immediately below this record is this one:]
Hannah-Wife of John Chilcoate Decd.
Dau. of Archibald Dell
Died 26 Dec. 1887
If your John was 55 at time of death, and if he was born 3 Sept., then it
would appear that the birthyear was 1792 - rather than 1794 as you stated.
Perhaps he died in his 55th year (that is, age 54 years). The IGI (1994
edition) shows his DOB as 1791. It is possible that the age on the tombstone
is difficult to read, and that the age is shown as 53 - considering that 5s
and 3s often are confused.
There are potential conflicts with the birthdates of his siblings Sarah and
Ensor.
Sarah was b. 1792 (calc.), based on her being aged 53 y. when she died on 4
Dec. 1845. She m. Wm. Rinker by 1826 and was buried at Bethel Methodist
Episcopal Church Cemetery, Madison Township, Perry Co., OH. Ensor Chilcote
was b. 26 Sept. 1792, according to Fred M. Chilcott (now deceased), but 24
Sept. 1793 according to the IGI (1994 Edition). According to Fred, Ensor d.
17 Aug. 1867 in Perry Co., OH, and he was buried at Somerset Cemetery. Fred
may have calculated Ensor's birthdate from his age (unknown to me) at time of
death. Ensor m. Mary Waters c. 1818, and she d. in Wisconsin in 1886. Two
of these siblings could have been twins; however, I think it is not too
likely that three of them were triplets.
John's father, Humphrey, is said to have died on 9 Sept. 1804. Do you know
if there is any evidence to corroborate that date?
Hope this helps,
Ron Cofiell
Hi Ron and Carey,
I have been pondering what is the best way to get this stuff all in one
report so we have all the Chilcote ducks lined up and can share the
info.in a concise way. For example; my wife and I have been working for
several months on the line of my mother's 3rd ggrandma. As a result of
some courthouse work, library work and people feeding me data from the
internet; we have put all the information on the Family Tree Maker
program. From there we can spit out all sorts of trees and reports.
Having only started this line recently, for good or bad , I have become
a mini expert on that line.
This would take some time for us to do for Chilcote and require anyone
interested in a report to provide whatever data they have. Any interest?
What, if any genealogy program do you all use? Have you found one you
like?
Here is something I found recently which comes under the heading "I hope
the hard feelings are not generational"!
State of Ohio

Recognizance for Mary Burge-Philip Biddinger

note: later on Mary Burge asked for a continuance as her witness John
Bryan is leaving for Portland [Sandusky-on- the -Lake] with a team.
I also have more cases re this big extended family e.g. Aaron Tilton vs.
Daniel Bryan and Joseph Chilcote.
These are found at the OGS. I'd put this kind of stuff in the report.
Note: the Brandeburys and the Burges and Chilcotes intermarried. e.g.
John C. md. Eliz. Brandebury -Lived Wood co. Ohio.
If I had to say what my biggest problem in genealogy is over the past 30
yrs it would be where did my Burge tribe come from? Since you seem to
know alot about the Burge's relatives have you seen any indication as to
where?
The name Burge/Burgh indicates to me they are Irish or English. I first
find them ca 1789 in Huntingdon Co. Pa. Family lore says John Younger
Burge was born in Maryland. I hired a gen. yrs ago in Md. with zero
results.
There was a Makerel Family on the Octororo river/Cr. area of S. E. Pa.
in very early times. This would not be too far from Western Run of the
Chilcote origens. I suppose the Burges came to Hunt. Co. from Md. but
have found no trace in Md.
Are you,[Ron] in Md.? Can you help? I'd pay expenses.
Bud
In response to inquiries from Bud and Carey, here is some information re my
CHILCOAT lineage:
1. Possibly James Chilcott of Anne Arundel Co., MD.
2. Humphrey Chilcote (buried 22 Jan. 1708 - probably 1708/9) m. Mary ___ (not
Tindall/Tindale).
3. John Chilcote b. 10 April 1706 m. Margaret ___ probably by 1738. There
is no evidence that her maiden name was Robinson, even though their first
known child was named Robinson. It is possible that that name derived from a
Robinson family that may have been neighbors. One possible candidate for
John Chilcote's wife is Margaret Stewart, who was bapt. 18 Oct. 1717 and the
d/o James and Rachel (Wycholl/Witchell) Stewart. Margaret Chilcote named her
second born son James, although it is conceded that John Chilcote's elder and
only surviving brother was also named James. There may be some connection to
Margaret Isham, b. 25 June 1720, d/o James Isham and Elizabeth ___ , widow of
Wm. Robinson. Much research remains to be done.
4. John Chilcote b. 30 March 1743, d. 7 August 1833; m. (2) Delilah Cole,
possibly d/o Christopher Cole and Sarah Tipton. Mordecai Cole, s/o
Christopher and Sarah, had several transactions involving the Chilcote and
Ensor families, and he served in the Revolutionary War. It is noted that
Delilah named one of her two sons Mordecai (b. 1769 per Grace Adkinson
papers). According to a note from R.B. Miller in 1951, Mary Ann (Cole)
Chilcote (wife of John O. Chilcote) and Miss Esther Ensor of Western Run
stated that John is said to have "moved to a Western state with all his
children except Elijah who settled on Western Run in the Eighth District."
5. Elijah Chilcote was b. 1765 (Grace Adkinson papers, submitted to Ohio Gen.
Soc. in 1984; although Barton Chilcote had estimated that Elijah waa b. 1768)
on the Western Run, Balto. Co., MD. On 7 Feb. 1789 (MD Marriages 1778-1800,
by Robert Barnes) he m. Elizabeth Ensor by license of the same date. She may
have been b. 1766-1770; she was d/o George Ensor and Jemima Bond and the
niece of Prudence Ensor, the first wife of Elijah's father. In the 1790
census for Back River, Upper Hundred of Balto. Co., "Eliezah Chilcoate" was
shown as head of family, with two males of 16 years and upward (who was the
other one?), one male under 16 (probably his son John), and one female
(presumably his wife). Elijah was appointed Ensign in the Baltimore Militia
on 18 June 1794. As "Elisha Chilcoat," he was listed in the Balto. Co.
Militia Registration of 1794, indicating he was between ages 18 and 45.
(Others named on the same page were Robt. Curran, Geoe. Ensor and Mordecai
Cole.) Elijah Chilcote (that's the spelling he used in an 1821 document)
[may have] d. in 1826, before 30 Oct. (Rudi Bethke's research findings).
Their children were (1) John (b. 9 April 1790 - calc., d. prob. 1868) who m.
Elizabeth Ensor 9 April 1815 on attaining to man's estate (age 25?);
Elizabeth was d/o George Ensor and Sarah Smith, (2) Delilah, (3) George (b.
1794 - calc., d. 12 Feb. 1876, aged 82 years) who m. Matilda (Matthews)
Wainwright 22 Nov. 1815, (4) Rachel (b. 1798 per pension records or 1799 per
tombstone, d. Sept. 1883 per War of 1812 Pension File No. WC 8904) who m.
John Ensor 7 April 1816, and (5) Elijah (b. possibly 1802 based on 1850
census record but age 57 in 1860 and age 70 in 1870; d. 1872, before 2 July
per Rude Bethke, d. 1872 per tombstone inscription) who m. Sarah ("Sally")
Ensor 5 Feb. 1824 ("Rev. Edward Choate, Particular Baptist," History Trails,
Vol. 7, no. 2, Winter 1972-73, p. 6). Sarah was b. 31 July 1802 at Ensor's
Manor, Belfast, d/o Abraham Ensor, Jr. and Berthier Brooks (per my
grandmother's Ensor bible).
6. Delilah Chilcoat was b. Jan. or Feb. 1792 (calc.) and d. 18 April 1883
(tombstone inscription at Black Rock Cemetery, Butler, MD). On 4 Feb. 1812
she m. John B.
Ensor (War of 1812 pension records). He was b. 1791 and d. 1880, s/o Abraham
Ensor, Jr. and Berthier Brooks of Belfast, MD. All of the children of John
and Delilah were given the middle name of Chilcoat.
7. Josephus Chilcoat Ensor was b. 1833 (1850 census) or possibly 1834 (one
calc. based on age 60 at death). He m. (2) Mary Elizabeth Tracey (1841-1914)
by license dated 2 June 1862. She was the granddaughter of Benjamin
Christfield and Sophia Smith (Ensor) Simpers. Joseph d. 10 Oct. 1894 from
tuberculosis.
8. John Irving Ensor b. 31 July 1867, d. 27 April 1961. He m. 2 Aug. 1892 at
Reisterstown, MD, Elizabeth Ellen Ensor (1871-1951). She was d/o Micajah
Wesley and Martha Ellen (Benson) Ensor.
9. Annabel Louise Ensor (1910-1958) m. Carroll Edward Cofiell (1903-1987) on
9 Feb. 1929 at Towson, MD. He was s/o Joshua Tracey and Clara Genevieve
(Ensor) Cofiell, and grandson of Luke Edward and Laura W. (Caples) Ensor.
10. Ronald Austin Cofiell b. 1944 Balto. City, MD.
Sorry, but I don't have GEDCOM.

Ron Cofiell

I know I have an accumulation of notes on the Bryans, census etc.- if
they are of special interest to you.
Talk to you later.
Bud
Hi Ron and Carey,
After 30 yrs of working on these family lines off and on and not finding
anyone with an interest in them I'm a bit overwhelmed. Ron, your
bringing up the " Adkinson" papers gave me the chills. That was an
amazing find for me and the way it happened is very, very fortuitous. A
Burge ancestor apparantly died and the papers left in a bureau drawer.
The papers were found and turned into the OGS by someone who recognized
their value. [Adkinson?] I cannot describe their exact provinance as Ms.
Adkinson was not that forth coming.
I've never been able to find any direct decendends of the man who
compiled and documented that genealogy.
Regarding Waldron; if you go to the First Families of America Web Site
you will find the bio of Resolved Waldron whom I and you? are decended.
I submitted the bio.and my name was/is there.
When I started gen. in 1970 the third largest gen. lib. in the world was
the size of my small house and mostly it was myself and the librarian
present. Now the same lib. is a huge room/hall with many employees an
thousands of patrons. With the internet and requirements for accurate
documentation genealogy is a whole new game. So it is inevitable that
some of my data will have to be massaged.
I was fortunate to have found Barton Chilcote in Ada, Ohio years ago,
a funeral director, RIP, who gave me everything he had from researching
Chilcotes.
Bottom line after this lecture; I want to share all of the data I have
with you guys but need a little time. I have sent/received Gedcoms but
have to review procedure. Much of the data I have is hard copy and will
have to be waded thru.
I look forward to meeting you to find Chilcote Cem. But, will go out to
Nankin Prior to 9/2000 to find. After the leaves fall is the best time.
Also do you want photos of grave sites western Ohio? I've already
photographed some of Mackrels and perhaps Chilcotes.
[ note : I'm using ChilCOTE spelling generically in order to not offend
any one's sensibilities wink, wink.]
Regarding, the restoration of the cem at Nankin; if it's abandoned the
Co. trustees might be perswaded sic. to take it over. There is no
penalty in Ohio to prevent it from becoming a planted field and
obliterated. My uncle and I put a fence around ours and I recently
put a new granite marker to perpetuate, and deter the owners from
destroying the Cem. They pay taxes on the land which prob. does'nt make
them happy.
More later got to re-read your memos.
Cuzz. Bud.
Hi Bud,
I am relieved that I am not the only one interested in finding the Chilcote
Cemetery, where Elisha Chilcote (son of John and Sarah Mackerel/McKrill
Chilcote) was buried. I want to try again (hopefully in Sept. 2000) because
I would like to think that John (b. 30 March 1743) was buried there in 1833
(d. 7 August 1833), and that perhaps he had a flat tombstone that got covered
over with dirt over the past 166 years. If we could find Elisha's stone, I'd
like to poke around to see if we could detect another stone "underground." I
had not realized that there were at least seven unmarked graves there. I
wonder how that is known?
So, if it's not too late, I'd like to rendezvous with you next year on a
search-and-find mission. It would be nice if the cemetery could be restored.
By the way, Elizabeth (Ensor) Chilcoat (sister of Prudence Ensor who became
John Chilcote's second wife) is buried at the Old Bethel Methodist Church
cemetery, in Madison Township, Perry Co., OH, with a flat marker. With
excellent directions from the Perry Co. Chapter, Ohio Gen. Soc., I was able
to find it in 1997 in the pouring rain, and it is disintegrating. I would be
willing to pay to have it restored. Some of her descendants have stated that
they were unable to locate her grave or the cemetery. My purpose was to
verify the inscription, inasmuch as some have alleged that she was born in
1748. She died on 28 June 1832, "aged 84 y," so she could have been born in
1747 or 1748. As recorded by the Perry Co. Chapter, her inscription states:
CHILCOTE
Sacred to the memory of Elizabeth deceased June 28, 1832 aged 84 y
"Sickness a long time I endur'd, Physicians were in vain, Til' God
was pleas'd to give me ease, and free me from my pain"
(Stonecutter - J. Perrung, Somerset)
[Elizabeth's husband, Joshua Chilcoat, died in Union Township, Huntingdon
Co., PA, after the 1800 census and before the 1810 census. Some people have
confused Joshua with James, Elizabeth's eldest son. James' wife was also
named Elizabeth, and her predeceased his mother by a few years.]
Can anyone verify that John Chilcoat (d. 1833) died in Richland Co. (that
area which later became Ashland Co.) near the village of Orange (now called
Nankin), at the home of his daughter Mary, widow of Benjamin Mcreal/Mackerel
(he probably died before 1830)? I could not find any Mackerels in the 1830
census for Richland Co. It would seem to me that John Chilcoat, who died in
the 91st year of his age, would have been living with his son Elisha who then
was living in that county.

This is in reference to a 1998 posting to the Chilcote List from DeAnna
Nichols Fisher. The Balto. Co. (Maryland) Historical Society has a copy of
the bible records which show that:
1. Mr. Wm. A. Chilcote and Miss Kate D. Moore were married in TN on 17 Nov.
1858, with the witnesses being John T. Kelly, Clinton Williams and Caleb
Davis. (This may not be a part of the bible, inasmuch as the title is
MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE.) At the top are small oval photographs of them. The
bible record identifies Davis as the Rev. who performed the marriage.
2. William Alexander Chilcote was born Nov. 2, 1834. Kate Dudley Moore was
born April 1, 1841. [Thus, she married at age 17.] Their children were Emma
Kate, Willie Moore, George Lewis, Ella May, Bessie, Mary T., Alice Dudley and
Louise.
3. These records were donated by Catherine Chilcote Taylor Klein, Wm.'s
granddaughter.
4. Wm. was son of Richard Chilcote and his second wife, Harriett Parks, who
m. on 18 April 1830. Richard's first wife was Sarah Chamberlain Morford,
whom he m. on 14 Nov. 1826. Richard's other children were Ellin M. (1827),
Thomas M. (1829), Joseph Milton (1838), Mary Priscilla (1840), George Peter
(1844), Frances Washington (1847), and Anna Elizabeth (1854).
5. There were two bibles. One belonged to Wm. Alexander, who made the
entries. The other one belonged to his father Richard, who made the entries,
but his "Bible was destroyed by fire and only the two pages were saved and
put in my grandfather's Bible, William Alexander Chilcote." CCTK
Also, I have found reference to William A. Chilocte in Baltimore City, as
follows:
1862 Muster Roll - Eighth Regiment
1862 Enlistment - Affidavits
Catharine Klein pursued her ancestry in the early1950s, at which time I think
she lived in Lutherville, Md. None of the bible records shows Catherine
Moore's ancestry.
Another researcher who might be of assistance is Bill W. Woodward, who posted
to the Roots Archives on 11 Feb. 1996, under Subject Heading: Chilcoat.
Among the families he was researching were Booker, Davis, Moore, Woodward,
and Richard Chilcoat (who was born in Baltimore County, Maryland). Bill's
E-mail address at that time was:
bwwoodwa(a)bentley.UnivNorthCo.EDU
I sent him a message in Dec. 1997, but do not recall if it bounced or not.
One suggestion is that you could check the staff at the University of North
Carolina to see if you could locate him.

That's the one! We've traced back to my 4GGF John Chilcote and his wife
Hannah Dell. We believe this John is the one born 3 Sep 1794, in Huntingdon
Co., PA, to the Humphrey you mentioned above and Sarah Ensor, daughter of
George Ensor and Elizabeth Reeves; we just haven't found definitive proof
yet... I'd also like to see information on this John's children and their
descendants. I'm descended from his son Solomon, but he had 4 other
children as well: Sarah Jane, b. about 1827, George, b. about 1837,
Elizabeth, b. about 1841, and Pennelia, b. about 1843... Anybody else out
there reading this List, please feel free to chip in if you have any
information on these PA Chilcotes; heck, chip in even if you don't...

Those dates can't be right, Bud, unless Mordecai got married at age 7. 1786
or 1796 would be a lot more believable. Even so, I'd like to see details on
the children and their descendants if you have it. Mordecai
is/was/would-have-been my 1st cousin, 6 times removed so any descendants of
his would be my cousins also...

According to information I've seen posted elsewhere, Bud, my 1C6R Elizabeth
and Henry had 8 other children as well but details on those is scanty...
Hi Ron,
Pardon me for jumping in, after Bud was kind enough to forward a copy of
your message to me as the List seems to be somewhat sporadic, but you caught
my attention by mentioning your descent...
> Bud
> Thank you very much for your many contributions to the Chilcote List,

Um, I may not be looking in all the right places but what I have seen
indicates that every Chilco___ descendant goes back through John
Chilcott/coat/cote and Margaret Robinson...
> through their son John and his first wife Delilah Cole. And then through
> their son Elijah who m. Elizabeth Ensor.
Would you care to expand on that, Ron? Elijah is/was/would-have-been my 1st
cousin, 6 times removed. All I have on his children is five names and the
names of the two Ensor boys that married two daughters, and all of that is
basically hearsay. Any further information you can provide on any or all
descendents of Elijah would be greatly appreciated. GEDCOM format is
preferred but not required...
I'm descended from John and Margaret's son Humphrey, I believe, through
Humphrey's son John, as I mentioned above in my comments to Bud.

Bud,
Thank you very much for your many contributions to the Chilcote List, which I
have just subscribed to. I descend from John Chilcoat and Margaret ___,
through their son John and his first wife Delilah Cole. And then through
their son Elijah who m. Elizabeth Ensor.
Re the Chilcoat Cemetery, are you referring to the one where Elisha Chilcoat
was buried, and also some Cunninghams? If so, I tried to find it in 1997,
and will try again next year. Its location was described in a book on
Richland Co. cemeteries, I think, and I just found it on an Ashland Co.
website. The directions to its location werre confusing because it was near
where three roads converged, and one of the markers was a barn that has since
burned down. I had limited time, was running low on gas, was not familiar
with the area (I'm from MD and CA), had to use a restroom, and found my way
to a nearby barn which was the only barn left standing in that area. The
owner had never heard of that cemetery.

Hi Bud,
> Hi Ron,
Did the message from Ron come through the List or did he communicate
privately with you? I ask because I didn't see his message to you and if it
came through the List I should have seen it, shouldn't I?

I'm convinced I'm descended from John's brother Humphrey and Sarah Ensor,
which would make John my 5th great grand uncle and Sarah Mackerel my 5GGA by
virtue of her marriage to John. Sarah's, and Elizabeth's, sister Ruth
married my 1C6R Mordecai, son of John Chilcote/Chilcoat by his previous
marriage to Delilah Cole, if my info is correct. Neither of these
relationships relates me to your 3GGM Elizabeth. Are there any
Burge/Chilcote/Chilcoat/whatever-variation connections which would relate
you and I? If so, I would greatly appreciate details of the connection and
your relation to it, preferably in gedcom format if it's not too much
trouble. My co-researcher Christine and I haven't *verified* the final link
to Humphrey yet, but we're working on it and would be happy share when we
do.

As I'm interested in ALL Chilcotes, and the various variations of that
surname, I'd like to see that myself...
