Jene was my second cousin twice removed, her grandchildren and I are fourth cousins, Our common ancestors were Alvah and Catherine (Booher) Chilcoat. Joseph Frye's brother Billy was my great-great-grandfather.

Jene Spencer Branchen, 95, of Gibsonia,
died Monday, Feb. 18, 2013.
She was born Aug. 9, 1917, in Mt. Union,
daughter of the late George and Pearl (Montague) Chilcoat. She was the beloved wife of the late John Branchen and her first husband, the late William Spencer Sr. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. She was the loving mother of George (Judy) Spencer, of Holt, Mich., William (Judy) Spencer Jr,. of Cary, N.C., and Chris (Kim) Spencer, of Transfer; stepmother of Susan (Grover) Smith, John (Karen) Branchen Jr., Kim (Melody) Branchen, Vicki (Stephen) Kasunich, Alan (Julie) Branchen and Darryl (Terri) Branchen; also survived by seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many stepgrandchildren. Jene earned a bachelor of arts degree in education from University of Alabama, was a substitute school teacher for both Pine-Richland and Mars Schools districts for many years, and was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Gibsonia. She was the greatest mom in the world and lived everyday caring for her beloved children and beautiful grandchildren!
. Family will welcome friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME LTD., 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with theRev. Darcy Hawk and the Rev. Calvin Henderson co-officiating. Interment will follow in West Union Cemetery. Family suggests donations to the Lighthouse Foundation, P.O. Box 366, Bakerstown, PA 15007.
