Subject: CHILCOAT obituary GILCOAT/ JILCOAT/ JILCUT query
This obituary came to my attention and I submit it for the help it might
be to someone. I research the name GILCOAT and wonder if the name might once
have been the same. My ancestor John GILCOAT lived and paid taxes in Wilkes
County, Georgia, from 1785 to 1805. In the records his name was once
misspelled JILCOAT and once misspelled CHILCOAT. I believe that prior to that he had
lived in North Carolina and may have been related to Umbra GILCUT.

This is first that I have seen this message. The William that you are referring too is the wrong William. It is proven 100 %, but his parents are probably William and Elizabeth Broyles Chilcoat of Alabama and Texas. William born about 1780 and died 1826 in Lawrence Co., Al. Do you know what C.C. stand for? Was he married to Caroline Yager and had 4 children? Do you know his birth and death dates?
