I will ask Wallace's family. They may remember something. Was it possible that he could have been in an orphanage at some point just because of hard circumstances in the family?
If I find anything I'll let you know.

Thank you Kay. That helps. I remember meeting Wallace when I was younger. My Dad (William III) was stationed overseas and in diffferent states (Idaho, Texas, etc) so I only visited in summers and sporadically. I'm still in contact with Sheldon and Kay (my aunt & uncle).
It's interesting to hear that Lucia was Red's biological mother. My Dad always seem to think Red was in an orphanage at some point which I couldn't reconcile with the genealogy.

My father was Joseph Anthony Heck, son of Lucia Rose Chidester and Walter Heck. Walter, my grandfather Heck, died when my father was 11 or 12 years old. My father Joseph was an only child. She remarried Swearingen and had your grandfather Swearingen. I remember meeting Susie and Betty many years ago. I'm a generation older than you!
On the census of 1930, it states that Joseph Heck was the stepson of Thomas W. Swearingen and was age 26 at the time. Two others listed on the census, Josephine 8 and Wallace 2 were the children of Joseph Heck. They were my half siblings. Thomas was listed as a son of the head of household (your grandfather) and I believe that it was simply an error on the part of the census taker that he was listed as a Heck. it should have been Swearingen.
I hope that info will be helpful. You may find some help in catholic records.
Kay Heck Higginbotham

Lucia Rose Chidester is my Great Grandmother. My Grandfather was Thomas W. ("Red") Swearingen and Grandmother was Susie (Chaney) Swearingen. My Mom was Betty Faye. Trying to figure out my grandfather's past. I was told at one point he was an Orphan so I'm not sure if Lucia was his biological Mother. also, in some earlier records I believe he went by "Thomas Walton/Walter Heck"
Regards,
Bill Depew IV (44yrs old)
