I recently purchased a wonderful old postcard studio photograph which says on the back "Mabel Chidester - Cherry, IL". The photo was taken by the J. J. Lerch Studio, Toledo, OH, which is in Lucas Co. I bought this last month from an antique dealer who buys collections in suburbs of northern IL. I enjoy rescuing lovely old pictures like these from antique shops and locating descendants/family members so that I can re-unite the pictures, for only my costs, with people who will treasure them.
The photo was taken in about 1910-1920, and is regular postcard size, which was typical during that time period. It is in very good condition and is an original (not a copy). It is possible that this photo was indended FOR Mabel, instead of a photo OF Mabel - for it is a photo of a wonderful young family, consisting of a proud father and mother, sitting on two Victorian style chairs in a garden outside - and holding a darling baby who appears to be wearing a christening dress. Mother appears to be about 20-22 years old, and dad could have been 25-28 or so. Baby is about six months old.
If you have Chidester ancestors in your family from this time frame in either Bureau Co., IL or Lucas Co., OH, or if you can relate to Mabel or this family in any way, please Email me at margerice(a)prodigy.net - and I will get back to you soon. My only wish is to restore this great old photo to family.

Looking for information on a widower named Chidister who was married to an Elizabeth McCurdy, of Greene Co, PA. They had three children, all under 21 in 1879 according to the probate of her father's estate. They were almost certainly married before 1865.
Thanks,
Patrick
