I THINK YOU WILL ALL FIND THIS INTERESING
Hi Roger - This is me, Sharon in San Diego. Sorry, I usually try to write
imshepherd and not Imshepherd because I know it is confusing. I must have
forgotten. How are things?
I feel like I am deserting you. . . . I am now looking for Chalkowitz and not
so much for Chickering. Is there any information that I can give you, as a
central source, about the Chalkowitz who turned into Chickerings in 1920?
You know what is really strange. It seems that there are no other Chalkowitz
in the U.S. There are no recorded deaths of even one Chalkowitz (by any
first name) in all of the Social Security index. I have not seen the name
even once in any of the genealogy pages.
For the record, the Chickerings I have are my husband's father, aunts and
uncles; Louis (who married Hattie Solomon and had Sherwin), Abe, Esther,
Franklin (who married Fannie and had Franklin M.), and Flora. They all
appear on the 1920 Cincinnati Census as Chickering and the 1910 Cincinnati
census as Chalkowitz. We know it is them because their mother, Rebecca
appears with them and the ages are right. With the birth of my grandson,
Drew, we are only a four generation Chickering family.
My husband was estranged from his father at an early age so we have no family
traditional history from the Chickering side. We do know that Louis, my
husband's father, died in Florida in 1984.
If you can, please archive this message in case you run into some Jewish
Chickerings from Cincinnati. I will also keep in touch.
Hope all is well with you. Please keep in touch.
