Message Board Post:
Thomas and Elizabeth had a daughter, Luella b. May 1870 who married James R. Mahana/Mahan/Mahaney/Mahoney. They married the first time on July 19, 1885 and again 22 Oct 1894, both times in Columbia, Boone Co., MO. The 2nd marriage lists her as Mrs. Luella Mahaney. So, I think they divorced and then remarried. The first marriages lists him as James R. Mahana. I have not been able to find any records of them living together.
Luella is the sister of Amanda Red Chick who married Andrew Thomas Kelly. Amanda died, apparently of TB soon after having a baby in 1891 when her youngest son was only 18 months old. This son was Lenore Edward Kelly and on one of his marriage applications, he gives his father's name as Andrew Thomas Kelly, his correct birthplace and date and his mother's name as Luella. Did he not know his mother's name? Did his aunt Luella raise him?
Anyone with any information on Luella, please reply.

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Jessie E. CHICK which was taken at the
N. F. Strong Studio in Whitehall, Michigan. The photograph appears to have
been taken in the 1880's with Jessie noted as 4 months old at the time it
was taken and weighing 16 lbs. Based on limited research I have been able
to locate the following information regarding Jessie and her family:
Jessie Ellen CHICK was b. 9 Jan 1885 in Whitehall, MI to parents Charles N.
or W. CHICK (1857-1921) and Dora HEDGES (b. 1860). Jessie died 27 Mar 1947
in Asheville, NC and is buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Asheville, NC.
It appears that Jessie never married and worked in a Sanitarium prior to her
death.
Census records provide the following details:
1910 census of Asheville, NC: - living in Mission Hospital
Jessie E. CHICK, age 25, born MI, parents born MI/IL, a Dietician
1920 census of Biltmore Forest, NC:
Mary LAXTON, age 48, born NC
Jessie E. CHICK, sister-in-law, age 35, born MI
1930 census of Asheville, NC:
Jessie E. CHICK, age 45, born MI, a Dietitian
1940 census of Asheville, NC: - living in Ambler Heights Sanitarium
Jessie E. CHICK, age 55, born MI, a Hospital Dietitian
I am hoping to locate someone from Jessie's family so that this wonderful
old photograph can be returned to the care of her family. If you are a
member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
