I understand now, you are not related. You found the correct ship manifest for Ciwie & Osie (Celia & Charles). I am waiting for some death info to come in regarding Celia, if there's no verification or proof of her parents' names, then I will order her death cert. I've checked everywhere that would have a marriage cert for Celia & William, there is none which could indicate they had a religious ceremony only that was not registered with the state. This is not uncommon in my family. If it's easier for you to email, I would prefer that you email me: i_greene(a)socal.rr.com
We'll keep in touch.

I am not related, but specialize in CHICK/CHEEK families.
The 1910 census Newark, Essex Co, NJ indicates that Celia Chick arrived in 1906 and married William Chick that year. They were living in Rochester by 1915 (NY Census). That census indicates that Celia had been in the country 10 years. While it is likely Celia Chick is Celia Schnittman, I don't find the proof yet. Need a NJ 1906 marriage cert, or a NJ 1955 death cert.
I found Ciwje Schnittman arriving Ship Rotterdam 16 Jul 1904 with brother Osie. The passenger list indicates they were from Minsk, and were going to Rochester to meet brother Meier Schnittman at 196 Chatham St, Rochester, NY.
Celia Schnittman appears in the 1905 NY Census with Meier and family, and brother Charles:
Head Meyer Schnittman M 25y Russia
Wife Fanny Schnittman F 22y Russia
Son Mortimer Schnittman M 1y United States
Son Nathan Schnittman M 1m United States
Brother Charles Schnittman M 19y Russia
Sister Celia Schnittman F 24y Russia

Thanks for your reply. I don't know anything about the Grochmalnick name. Does the name Schnitman/Schnittman sound familiar? If your Celia turns out to be my cousin, her maiden was Schnittman. Spelled various ways. What maiden name do you have for Celia?

Meyer Grochmalnick was a boarder with William and Celia in the 1910 census. He was 28, born in Russia, immigrated in 1907. Like William, he was a painter. They lived in Newark, NJ. By 1920 William and Celia were living in Rochester. I can't find any other instances of the Grochmalnick surname. Perhaps you know a different spelling.

I'm also researching this family as I believe Celia is a cousin. Do you have names of any of Celia's family in Rochester? My Celia had 2 brothers in Rochester NY, Meyer & Charles. If this sounds familiar, please write to me.
