I have an Ann Chick in my genealogy. She is my 2x G-grandmother. Her father was Joseph Bryant Chick. She was born in Sep 1837 and married John Boyland in 1858. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Thanks,
Jill (Boyland) Paulus

HI Louise,
thanks for replying.
I'm afraid that i live in Melbourne but i would have loved to catch up. My mum still has immediate family in Tasmania mainly in Somerset.
I would love to continue via email, which brother of Mervyn's are you connected to? It would be great to see the information you have. My mum is blown away with the information i have given her.
Here is my email address if it is easier: lsitlington(a)me.com
I'm not sure how this message board works as you are the first person i have sent anything to.
regards
Lisa

Hi Lisa,
Lovely to hear from you.
Mervyn Chick was my Dad's uncle so your mother and my father would have been cousins (my father died in 2001)
Do you live in Tasmania?
I am in Launceston.
I have a lot about the family once they are in Tasmania but very little prior, but I am happy to share what I have.
Let me know if you want to continue to email or if you live somewhere near by then we can catch up
regards
Louise

Hello Louise,
By chance i found your messages about William as i have been researching and thought i would contact you.
I am tracing my mothers family tree (Chick) in the last 2 months and found that she is related to William (the convict) which she knew nothing about. Her father Mervyn John was the son of Edwin Arthur who was the son of Charles Crowther. I have been trying to find information about Elizabeth Watts coming to Tasmania but have been unable, i was also interested in William's life before Tasmania not sure how far back you have traced.
kind regards
Lisa

Hi Louise,
If the William Chick in your line is the same one as in mine, then he is an elder brother of my g.g.grandfather Henry Thomas Chick b.1816 in Portsea, Hampshire. The family moved to London, to a poor area in Cripplegate, where some of them worked as tobacco pipe makers. Three of the older brothers got into trouble with the law---William was transported for theft of cochineal, John was sentenced to death for highway robbery but it was commuted to transportation for life , and Richard Russell was hanged at the Old Bailey for theft. There's a detailed account of his execution in several newspapers of the time. There were two other brothers, James and Spencer Jefferson, and two sisters,Eliza and Mary. They were all children of William Chick, a baker born in Portsmouth in 1773 ,and his wife Mary Paine. William was the son of Richard Chick and his wife Ann(surname unknown), and Richard was the son of Thomas Chick b.circa 1711 and his second wife Elizabeth Russel. she being th!
e daughter of Giles and Elizabeth Russel(b. circa 1690). I've no idea of the occupations of either Richard or Thomas, but the references to them are found in the parish records of Wyke Regis in Dorset. If you would like any more details, please contact me.
Best wishes,
Alison Brown (nee Chick)
