Your grandfather was the son of an Albert Munden, Albert had an older brother, John, born 1855. His son, John Roles Munden was my grandfather. John Roles Munden had two sons and a daughter. The eldest son, born 1912, was named Halson.

His father, William Chick (b. 1758 in North Petherton), married Elizabeth Bryant (b. Oct 1781 in Hinton St George) on 12 Jul 1801 in Hinton St George.

My first Robert Bryant Chick was born around 1801. He died just before the 1841 census so I don't know where he was born. In London he was a 'Coal Hauler'.
Depending on when your Elizabeth Bryan married her Chick husband he might well have been an older brother to your Joseph B-C from Taunton. I have a theory that Robert had an older brother John but John might have been a step or half-brother - maybe even a cousin.

Joseph Bryant Chick (father) is 1812-1885.
Joseph B C (son) is 1834-1900; Elizabeth B C is 1836-?; John B C is 1838-1883.
Other siblings are James Chick(1840-1913); Thomas C (1845-?); William C (1847-?).
James has a son Robert James Chick (b. St.Saviour's, London 1867; d. Pontypridd 1943) but I have no marriage or children for him.
Best regards
John (Beech)

I can't link into this group of Chicks BUT I do have a Joseph Bryant Chick (my 3 great grandfather; his mother was Elizabeth Bryant)whose children include Joseph Bryant Chick, Elizabeth Bryant Chick and John Bryant Chick, all from in or around Taunton. Surely there must be a connection?!?

What I have is this:
On her marriage certificate in 1896 Janet gave her father's name as Robert Bryant Chick - no other information. Janet's birth doesn't show up in the GRO indexes, but I think that is a transcription error - there is a reference of a Jerrett Chick in Q2 of 1871 in Poplar which I think is her - also might explain why she is not in the 1871 census. 1871 census does show Robert, Martha and Charlotte.
RG10 584 Folio 55 Poplar 1871
11 Hale Street
Robert Chick Head Mar 41 Mason and Pensioner Middlesex St Martins
Martha Chick Wife Mar 38 Middlesex St Martins
Charlotte Chick 3 Scholar Kent Plumstead
Robert Bryant died on 7th Oct 1874 aged 45 of bronchitis - listed as a labourer. Looks like Charlotte died the next year, aged 3. Martha and Janet show up on the 1881 census (Janet appears as Jesse). Martha died in 1885 and Janet left London and went into service in the Bournemouth/Poole area. She later married my great Grandfather - Charles Phillip, in Winchester (taken on as a housekeeper/nanny after his first wife died) and had 7 children, the youngest daughter was my grandmother, the youngest son was named Robert Bryant Phillip.
Tracing back - Robert Bryant Chick married Martha Kelley (daughter of Martha Skeel and James Kelley) on Sept 1 Sept 1861 in St Martins. His marriage certificate shows that his father was Robert Bryant Chick. The older Robert died on 3 Feb 1841 aged 39 - a Coal Hauler who died of Inflammation of the lungs.
This is where I get rather confused
I have the following census information:
1861 census
RG9/057 page 112 St.Martins in the Fields City of Westminster
19 York Place
John G.Chick head 48 Coal porter b.St.Martins in the Fields
Catherine Chick wife 47 "
Robert Chick brother 32 Pensioner "
This is probably the same info you have which shows Robert Bryant Jr as the brother of John G Chick
1851 census
HO107/1481 folio 197. 2, Percy Wharf
John G Chick age 38 Coal Porter born St. Martins
Catharine wife age 37 born St. Margarets.
No Robert Chick - but then I do not have access to the 1851 census to search
1841 census
HO107/740 book 3 folio 5-19 Bedfordbury, Chandos St, StMartins, Westminster
Charlotte Chick age 50 Laundress born in county No
Susannah age 16 born in county Yes
Robert 14 born in county Yes
This shows Robert Jr as the son of Charlotte. This is just after Robert Sn death and is the same address as shown on his death cert, plus his death cert is marked by Charlotte Chick wife of Robert Sn.
So:
Robert 2 (b 1828) was the son of Robert 1 (b 1801) and Charlotte (b c1800) - death cert & 1841 census.
Robert 2 (b 1828) was the brother of John G (b 1813) - 1861 census
But - John George (bap 6 Jan 1813) was the son of John (1) Chick and Charlotte (IGI record)
IGI also has two other children of John and Charlotte - Robert (?) bap 19 Jul 1818, and Hester bap 20 Apr 1817.
My theory is that John 1 and Robert Bryant 1 were brothers (or maybe cousins) and that John married Charlotte around 1810 (when Robert 1 was about 10 years old). They had at least two sons - John George and Robert - who died as a child. John 1 then died sometime around 1820 and Robert Bryant 1married his brother's widow. Robert Bryant 1 and Charlotte then had a son - Robert Bryant 2.
I don't have any information further back than that so if you have anything that would indicate where the first John and Robert Bryant Chick came from I would love to hear it - even if it destroys my little theory.
